No matter what is going on in life, smiling can greatly improve your day. A smile can help you and everyone around you feel better. Your physical, mental, and emotional health all benefit immensely from smiling. So if you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, or are simply looking for more reasons to show off your pearly whites, here are six reasons on why you should smile.

1. It is easier than frowning

It is a proven fact that smiling takes less muscles than frowning, so there is no reason to put extra effort into being sad. With all of your extra energy you've saved from not frowning, you can bake cookies to make yourself even happier.

2. It makes you more attractive

Who doesn't want to be more attractive? A smile can light up your whole face, enhancing your facial features like your sparkling eyes and perfectly straight teeth. And who knows? Maybe your soulmate just watched you smile.

3. It's contagious

By smiling you are making everyone else around you happier! If you don't believe me try it. I can guarantee someone will start smiling after they have seen your smile. That person may smile at someone and then the next thing you know, you've started a smiling chain reaction.

4. You'll make more friends

When you smile you come across as a friendly and approachable person. These are qualities that can help you meet new people and potentially great friends. Your lifelong best friend may be waiting for you to smile at them.

5. You seem confident

If you're trying to land a new job by nailing that interview, smile! Smiling not only boosts your confidence, but makes you look more confident. Confidence is key, and it all starts with a smile.

6. It will improve your mood

Whether you're happy, sad, or just having "one of those days," a smile will lift your spirits. Even faking a smile is proven to make you look and feel happier. So if you're ever feeling down or want to be happier than you are, flash a smile and watch your mood change for the better.

Go out there and reap all of the benefits of smiling. If you are looking to turn your life around, start by smiling and see how life starts to look a little brighter. There are hundreds of other benefits that will immediately make you feel better, look better, and be better! Always remember: a good day starts with a good attitude, but a great day starts with a smile.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
