Life can get us feeling blue a lot. Whether it be personal problems, public issues, or just being in a bad mood, you may have a frown that feels permanent. But we can change this! Here are eight reasons why today and every day you should turn that frown upside down.

1. There's no one else like you! Yay you!

Yes, nobody in the whole world, past, present or future, is just like you. You are one of a kind, and that's something to smile about!

2. You're reading this right now!

No, really—I mean it! Did you know that according to UNESCO about 26 percent of the world's adult population is illiterate? You have a great skill and education to be oh so happy about!

3. You live in such a beautiful place!

Think about Earth compared to other planets. Besides the obvious lack of oxygen on other planets, they're far more barren and (as far as we know) lifeless. From beautiful oceans to blooming flowers to the animals that roam, the Earth is—dare I say—magical. And you live on it every day! Go out and smell the roses—literally!

4. Speaking of animals... ANIMALS!

How precious are animals? There are no words for it! Spending some time with a pet, watching animal videos, even sitting outside enjoying the view of squirrels burying their acorns. Appreciating these lovely babes is a great way to grow a smile!

5. You're so gosh darn smart!

Humans are BY FAR the most intelligent species we know of! We invent, we're naturally the most logical and self-aware species, not to mention we're super social and humorous—and you're one of us!

6. So many people care about you!

Maybe sometimes it doesn't feel this way, or these people may not show it as much as they could, but between family, friends, teachers, and coworkers, and even people you pass by every now and then at the grocery store—there are so many people in your life who wish you nothing but goodness.

7. So many funny shows to smile about!

If you wanna smile and laugh for a while, I'd recommend shows like "Parks and Recreation," "Friends," and "Queer Eye," or watching stand-up comedy from people like Bo Burnham, John Mulaney, and Bill Burr. I'm sure a comedy show/special could give you a perfect reason to smile!

8. Last but not least—smiling makes you happier!

I know this sounds counterintuitive, but recent studies have found that making yourself smile for long enough will actually have a positive effect on your mood, so that eventually you can be smiley for real!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
