Why You Should Be Reading Cassandra Clare's Books

Cassandra Clare is, quite frankly, my favorite author; so in honor of her excellent books, (which she has many), are five reasons you should take time to read them.

1. Creativity

She has such a wonderful mind full of creativity. Every book- heck, even every paragraph comes up with stuff that I could have never imagined on my own. She creates new ideas and adds new components to old ideas. My favorite series by Clare is The Mortal Instruments because the creativity is just so evident in her work. This is shown in the race she created, shadowhunters, in which she had to write history on them, languages, weaponry, and the like.

She always seem to come up with the most compelling words as well. Words like, 'Parabatai' which seems like a simple word with little meaning, but if you read the books, you would learn that this is a very strong bond. Basically, an unbreakable bond that binds two people together.

2. Plot twists

Clare always has big plot twists from book to book. I literally cannot tell you how many times I went from beyond happy to wanting to scream because of the ways she changes things in her books.

3. Character development

Clare has a way with words, especially when it comes to characters. She not only has the ability to make a person fall in love with specific characters, but also the characters as a whole because they just make up the whole book. If one were left out, it would most likely just feel a little like something was left out. A specific character that you really learn to love (or I did at least):

Alec Lightwood is Jace Wayland's parabatai. He is a good archer, and he is good with his steel, but you won't know what that is until you read the books. He is witty and sassy at times. He is very protective of his younger siblings, and he is a very strong character. This summary of him doesn't do him justice, though. Clare does him justice, and that's why I love her.

4. Cliffhangers

After every book in The Mortal Instruments, there always seems to be some huge cliffhangers...major cliffhangers, actually. I won't spoil these for you, though.

5. Relational development

Clare does a great job with growing relationships (friendships and romantic). Jace and Clary (Clace) come together in an interesting way, but there is not any extreme circumstances that I feel like most books and movies rush into. Clare takes her time, for the most part, and you can see the way they grow together and how they fall in love.

I would rate her books 10/10, definitely read all of them.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
