23 Reasons To Love Your Best Friend

The best things about best friends, the abridged version.

23 Reasons To Love Your Best Friend
Kyle Nguyen

I wanted to shout “Happy Birthday” to my best friend, but my inside voice wouldn't quite do. I needed to find a way to make that birthday really special because you’re such an incredible friend that I wouldn’t want to live without.

‘Best Friend’ status has been achieved in many friendships, so I would not be surprised if you find that some of these points are an accurate description of the relationship between you and someone you consider your best friend.

1. They have a super sense that can tell the difference between you when you feeling okay, and when you are just saying, “I’m fine.” Very cliché, but a classic.

2. They know how to make you feel better.

3. They know all your favorite foods.

4. Either you have the same music taste, or try to have the same music taste by constantly forcing the other person to listen to your new favorite song. If you can tolerate each others' music then…

5. …the mini dance sesh’s may continue!

6. You can stop caring about appearance, looks, and overall decency when hanging out. There’s nothing better than putting in no effort, and not being judged for that day’s fashion disaster.

7. You know their family well, like very well, like you are part of their family now, and you know what they say the more the merrier... and cheaper by the dozen.

8. You could probably guess what they packed for lunch, and what snacks they brought for you. Friends who share food together, stay together.

9. There are good and bad times to FaceTime, and they know the best times to call.

10. They trust you enough to put your fingerprint passcode in their phone for the ultimate access, but it doesn’t really matter since you know everything there is to know already.

11. Too many inside jokes to count.

12. You’ve discovered you can find something funny in any situation.

13. You have talked about Tinder, screenshots have been sent, and bios have been ridiculed.

14. It's never awkward.

15. No really, you can smile, and you can stare at one another without things getting awkward.

16. The only time you use the word “awkward” is when you are describing the other person.

17. You have emoji’s next to their name in your phone, but that’s a given.

18. You know what to bring up to annoy them, and this is the first step in successfully blackmailing someone.

19. You know that going to college, and leaving them will be one of the hardest things, because of all the heartwarming, and soon-to-be-nostalgic, memories you’ve made together.

20. Your heart races when they are anticipating good news, even if it’s something like a college acceptance that you know leave you two many miles apart. It’s hard to explain, but I’m sure you understand what I mean.

21. The hugs.

22. The gifts are always meaningful and make you smile until your cheeks hurt.

23. You’ve been thinking about that one person the whole time while you were reading this article, huh? :)

I want to say Happy Birthday to my best friend. Thanks for being a great person, and giving me inspiration and personal examples to write about. Being a best friend is a noble position, and the people worthy of such a title are hard to come by. Why not tell your best friend that they mean the world to you?

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
