So, you may or may not have heard, but the 1997 20th Century Fox film "Anastasia" is being altered for the STAGE as early as this coming March!!! That's right, following the footsteps of other children's film adaptations such as "Lion King" and "Cinderella," this classic story is going to be a Broadway show starting March 23, 2017. In honor of this momentous new development, I revisited some of the best parts of the film to build up your excitement even more!
For more information about the play, visit the official site: http://anastasiabroadway.com/ and keep in mind that individual ticket sales start in October! *eeeeeeek*
1. The music.
Even better when you're old enough to appreciate it.
2. The fact that it brings some perspective to a time and place not often talked about (for kids at least) -- Russia in 1916.
Though it is important to note that the "history" it portrays is far from accurate.
3. The absolutely kick-ass names.
Anastasia? Dimitri? Rasputin?? I mean, I don't know about you, but I don't typically hear those every day.4. It stars Meg Ryan and John Cusack.
YEAH, 10-year-old me didn't realize this, either.5. The music box (& the story around it).
Which is even cooler in person... a fact I can attest to.
6. It's completely underrated.
There are far too many children of the 1990s who have not seen this movie.
