10 Reasons Why We Love Obama

There are infinitely many reasons, but I narrowed it down to 10.

Since Obama's presidency is about to end next month, it is fitting that I write to commemorate his accomplishments and his feat. I was in the 5th grade when I saw Obama getting elected on the school TV. The excitement from my classmates and teacher was contagious. I grew up under Obama's administration, although the 8 years passed by really fast; he was the first president I had paid attention to.

Now here are some things most Millennials love about Obama (other than his bromance with Joe)

1. He never takes himself too seriously. Although he is seriously hardworking to better this nation, in many speeches, depending on the environment, he throws in a light-hearted remark or two.

2. He wants diversity, which is shown when he appointed Sonia Sotomayor, the first Hispanic (woman) ever to serve as a Supreme Court Justice. In addition, his administration is noted as the "most diverse" in HISTORY with all minorities being represented including a transgender cabinet member.

3. Expanded embryonic stem cell research, leading to groundbreaking work in areas such as spinal injury treatment and cancer.

4. Legalization of gay marriage. The LGBT community has come a long way and under Obama's administration they finally have the legal right to marry whoever they choose. Obama also issued a memorandum extending benefits to the partners of gay and lesbian federal employees (what a nice guy honestly).

5. He's a family guy. You can tell because he's always in pictures playing with young kids. In addition, he has two daughters about my age, of course, and besides dealing with the domestic and international issues, he must also dealt with their puberty issues earlier in his presidency.

6. He signed he Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which fights wage discrimination against women.

7. Outlawed torture on prisoners. Although some prisoners may have committed malicious crimes, it is inhumane to torture their mind and body, especially when they are already being treated like trash by the broken prison system.

8. With the $78 billion tuition assistance GI bill, he supports the veterans and increase funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

9. "Don't boo. Vote" With that sentence, Obama reminds us that true democracy isn't where we try to conceal or mock others' voices; instead, we need to say our share.

10. Last but not least: he improved the formerly negative international perception of Americans (to some extent).

It was a good 8 years for us.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
