It's The Little Things

When things get rough, I take a deep breath, and remember all of the things that make me happy.

It’s the little things.

It’s the way that the sun shines in through your window in the morning, coating the room in this indescribable feeling of warmth and content.

It’s sitting in the car, watching the world pass by, and getting lost in thought.

It’s putting on an extravagant dress and doing your makeup and hair without having anywhere to go, only wanting to feel pretty.

It’s the smell of the grass after it rains.

It’s sitting in a cafe with your best friend, drinking the overpriced coffee and having a laugh.

It’s looking up at the sky, taking note of the way the clouds fade into the beautiful blue sky.

It’s sitting in a crowded room and listening to everyone laugh and talk, taking notice of the voices, the drama, the happiness, and the laughter.

It’s watching people as they talk, how their faces changes with each word, how their brows furrow when they get upset, or how their eyes light up when they talk about one of their interests.

It’s the way that the air feels when autumn hits, and the way the sky changes.

It’s the way the world seems to shed it’s skin, becoming doused in beautiful shades of burgundy and yellow.

It’s wearing oversized sweaters and drinking hot chocolate, as leaves fall around you.

It’s strangers passing by who take the moment to pay you a compliment that makes you smile for the rest of the day.

It’s singing at the top of your lungs in the car to a cheesy pop song, not caring if you sound terrible.

It’s spending those extra few dollars to splurge on those shoes or that makeup that you don’t really need, but buy anyway.

It’s staying up late at night pouring your heart out to someone you care about, and feeling relieved to have someone who cares.

It’s the feeling you get when you fall into bed after a long day, feeling the softness of your blankets, taking notice to the immense comfort that enraptures your entire body.

It’s sinking into a nice warm bath, feeling the relaxation take over your body as you breathe in the scent of eucalyptus and lemongrass.

It’s looking over at a loved one as they are speaking, and just thinking, ‘I am so happy you exist.’

It’s listening to a song for the first time and feeling completely at ease with everything that is wrong in the world.

It’s sitting down with a good book, and getting lost in the plot, paying no mind to what goes on around you.

It’s the way snow falls onto the ground once winter comes, quiet and peaceful.

It’s the feeling of being held in someone’s arms.

It’s the sound of laughter

It’s the way that couples look at each other when they are in love.

It’s the best friend that comforts you when you’re upset.

It's standing outside in the rain, feeling the raindrops hitting your skin.

It's looking over at the one you love, and realizing just how incredibly lucky you are.

It’s the little things in life that make it worth living. For every bad day, for every tear, and every bad thought that runs through my head, there are numerous things that remind me of the good that exists in the world. Life is a struggle, but it’s the little things that keep me going, that give me the most comfort in my darkest hours. Every moment, every second, all add up to create the person that we are right at this moment. And that is breathtaking.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
