It's difficult keeping in touch with people after high school, especially when everyone is going off in different directions. You may find it is worth it to shoot a text or Snapchat to your friends from home. I don’t think I would’ve been able to survive the first year of college without my high school friends. They’ve helped me more than they’ll ever know and I am forever thankful! My advice to all college freshman is, stay in touch with your friends from high school!

1. They understand you.

Making new friends in college is difficult, they might not understand what pushes your buttons or why you laugh for hours over something that may seem dumb to them. Your friends from high school have known you for 4 or more years. They know what to say if you got that internship you applied for or what to do if another boy breaks your heart. They know what will make you cry from laughter and what will make your day.

2. They want what is best for you.

After spending years together in high school, they know what you want even if you don’t want to admit it. They’ll tell you it’s more important to study then to see that cute boy from your history class, but they’ll also tell you to see him another day. They know what you want to do in the future and will encourage you to keep trying your best in everything you do.

3. Having people to call whenever.

Some phone calls are just to catch up and laugh about things happening in each other’s lives. Occasionally phone calls consist of one person crying while the other says “Everything will be okay.” It’s nice to hear a familiar voice no matter if you’re having a good day or if it’s 2 AM and you’re falling apart. They don’t know at all what’s going on but they will still be there to listen to you talk and try to work everything out.

.

4. They’re caring.

If you call them up about a guy who blew you off, they’re ready to come beat him up. They want to meet all the new people you tell them about, the good and bad. They’ll check in on you to make sure you’re feeling better after you took a break from your pile of school work to binge watch One Tree Hill. They’ll talk you through any problem whether it’s a research paper you’re struggling with or drama amongst your new friends.

5. Having people to hang out with at home.

Being away for months on end and then coming home only to be reunited is the best. They’ll count down the days until your return and celebrate when you’re back with a pizza or taco bell date. Upon your return it’s as if nothing has changed, you fall back into your old goofy- fun ways and pick up activities you did before leaving for school.

6. They love you, for you.

No matter how odd and quirky you are (referring to myself) they’ll always love you. You don’t have to wonder whether or not they like you because you already know they do. You can truly be yourself around them and not worry about what people are thinking because there is never any judgment.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
