5 Reasons College Actually Doesn't Suck So Bad

College life can suck. Cafeteria food, tiny dorm rooms, and professors that you can hardly understand can all lead to some resentment for this time in our lives. We've all been there, sitting in the library at midnight, coffee in hand, eyes drooping, and the assignment that's due tomorrow is only about 45% done. Despite all of those late night catastrophes, college is actually an okay place to be. Here are five reasons that college is a good place to be:

1. NO PARENTS

Our parents are great, but not THAT great. Weekends and holidays are enough.

2. You can live with your best friends.

You've gone from seeing your best friends at school to nightly sleepovers.

3. You can go where you want when you want.

10-hour road trip to the beach? No problem... Until you have to be at your 8 a.m. on Monday.

4. Free stuff on campus CONSTANTLY.

Free food, free t-shirts, free everything. Except for, you know, we still have to pay tuition.

5. Student discounts off campus.

Even when you do have to go and pay for things off campus, they're usually discounted for students.

So yeah, dorms suck, and so does cafeteria food, but college is worth it in the end. Stick around, make some friends, and maybe get your diploma too.

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Before that day, I never really thought about being a friend to myself, and at the time, I didn't really know what it meant. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.

Here are five things everyone should learn in order to be a better friend to themselves. These steps are hard, but they're so worth it.
