Everyone needs a major change every now and then.

I cut my hair during my sophomore year of high school and haven't gone back to long hair since. These are some reasons why you should cut your hair.

1. It's so much easier to manage!

It never tangles. I couldn't tell you the last time I brushed my hair. Short hair is so easy to manage because it rarely gets tangled, and I don't go through nearly as much shampoo and conditioner as I used to. Styling and blow-drying are so much easier and take me no time as well!

2. Trips to the hair salon are a lot cheaper.

A lot of places I've been to will charge you more if your hair hits the back of the chair for blow-drying, and sometimes they even un-charge people with long hair getting a trim. My haircuts are so easy--I just get it trimmed an inch or two, add some layers, and I'm done. I've definitely noticed the prices decrease as the amount of hair you're paying them to style also decreases.

3. Leaving your hair down isn't a chore.

When I had long hair, no matter what, by the end of the day I was putting it up in a bun or ponytail. Now that it's short, I can leave it down for the whole day and it doesn't usually irritate me. Unless it's in my face, I can quickly pull it back. I love being able to leave my hair down, and even when it's natural, it still looks put together because it doesn't get messy as easily.

4. It makes you look older.

Ever since I decided to cut my hair, I always hear from people how much older and more mature I look. When some of my friends cut their hair, it really did make them look older than they did with long hair. You aren't drowning in your hair and your face is more of the focal point, which just makes you look more awake and mature.

5. It's just so much lighter.

Cutting your hair just feels so good! Every time I even go get a trim, once that inch or two is cut off, I just feel so much better and not as weighed down. Also, if you go shorter than your shoulders like I do, not having your hair rest on your shoulders feels so much nicer than constantly feeling the weight of your hair.

6. Switch up your look.... without commitment.

It completely changes your look. Rather than trying out long hair and waiting for it to grow, it takes no time to cut and it always grows back if you aren't the biggest fan. If you don't like it right away, just wait--you'll get used to it in a few days. I hated mine at first, then I loved it. Also, if it makes you nervous to make a big cut, just cut off a little at a time. I'm pretty sure every time I keep getting it cut shorter and shorter.

7. It looks so much healthier.

You'll get rid of all your dead ends making the initial chop. Then when you get trimmed, it constantly keeps your hair looking healthy and fresh. I always get compliments on my hair and I know most of it is because it just always looks so much shinier and healthier than it did when it was long.

8. You get to try out a whole new set of styles.

Sure, you might have to say goodbye to long braids, but I've learned so many new cute braided looks, as well as other styles that are so easy but just look so cute. I love doing half up/half down, two French braids into buns, or little half up/half down ponytails. Not only are these hairstyles cute, they keep the hair off your face.

9. The "messy" look is so easy to achieve.

I almost never curl or straighten my hair, usually opting to leave it natural. However, I've become a true believer in the cute messy bun or ponytail look. It's so easy to just tie up without having to brush your hair into a nice ponytail and then trying to make it messy, just because it's so much lighter and easier to manipulate.

If your short hair is layered, it's common that not all the pieces of hair will go up, so I naturally get the little pieces on the side or the back that fall out rather than having to pull out long pieces of hair to try and make it look a little messier. Scrunchies have become my new best friend recently--I think they look so cute with my tiny ponytail.

10. Curl and straighten whenever!

It used to take me so long to curl my hair. If I want really small, tight curls, it still takes me a while. But every time I'm going somewhere and I want to last-minute straighten or add some curls or waves to my hair, it takes me probably half the time it did when I had longer hair.

These are just ten of the reasons I'm so glad I decided to cut my hair. Ever since I make the big chop, I can't go back to having long hair, and I think you'll feel the same was after you cut yours.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
