"I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers." -L.M. Montgomery

I've never met someone who didn't love Fall. The first day of the season was technically in September, but it never really feels like Fall until October rolls around. The temperature starts cooling down, the leaves are changing colors, and there are pumpkins everywhere you look.

What exactly does October consist of anyways?

1. THESE.

We see them (and buy them) for every season. Apparently, they are just pre-cut sugar cookies with an image printed on top... Such a basic description for something so magical, right? But seriously, we all love these cookies and holidays wouldn't be the same without them.

2. Dressing up-- (& no, there is not an age limit)

This is the one month that gives you plenty of opportunities to be anything / anyone you want to be, without the judgement of others. Well...they might still judge you, but this month is more acceptable than any others. October is full of haunted houses, corn mazes, Halloween parties, and last but not least...Halloween.

3. Painting / carving pumpkins

It doesn't matter how old you are. Everyone finds happiness in going to the pumpkin patch and picking out the best looking pumpkin you can find. (You can also find pumpkins at your grocery stores, but take my word for it- it's more fun at the patch.) Next, you either think of what you're going to carve into it...or how you want to paint it! I stick to painting because the carving process is a little sticky, but hey, to each their own. May the creativity begin.

4. Classics.

As if the picture doesn't speak for itself! Everyone has their go-to movies for October. For some, it's their favorite scary movie, but for me, it's not October without Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown. I'm so thankful that good ole' Disney Channel introduced me to these a long, long time ago.

5. Pumpkin. Spice. Latte.Everything.

Nothing screams fall like Pumpkin Spice. As I'm walking through the grocery store, I have found myself amazed at how many Pumpkin Spice items there can be. I tend to stick to the one and only, Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks. BUT there are many options for this flavor for the brave ones who are willing to try them. You know the old saying- don't knock it till you try it.

6. Fall Clothes

Summer is a fun, hot time, but let's be honest with ourselves. Fall clothes are so cute that it hurts. While my wallet is not prepared for this, I will be the first one ready to go on a huge shopping spree when the Fall clothing line hits the stores. I'm ready to bring back the leggings, boots, scarves, and oversized flannels. How about you?

7. *Plot twist* It's beginning to look a lot like.....

CHRISTMAS.

I bet you didn't see this one coming. I don't know about you, but I'm one of those people that think about Christmas all. year. long. Once the spooky activities are put aside and October is over, Christmas is the next thing on everyone's mind. Decorations are put up, people are noticeably happier, and holiday songs are playing in every store. I know what you're thinking- let's not jump to Christmas yet. You're right, we do still have Halloween and Thanksgiving. What can I say? I just listed the reasons to be excited for October, but maybe I'm a little excited for some of the other months as well.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

It is no secret that many American traditions have changed over time. As we grow older we change in so many ways that it only makes sense that we also change the way we celebrate special occasions. Of course when it comes to the holidays there are some family traditions that many of us still excitedly look forward to, whether it is eating your favorite dish or seeing favorite cousin. However, we all know that the holidays have overall changed a little from what they used to be.
