It’s official. I have an intense and chronic case of puppy fever.

I love their faces, their personalities. I love to run around with them. I love to cuddle. And I swear, my first official act as an adult when I graduate college next year will be to buy a dog I can love for the rest of its life.

However, after hours of researching what dog I want, I decided on one that isn’t the most universally loved dog out there. I want an American Staffordshire Terrier.

The American Staffordshire Terrier is related to the pit bull, a dog often associated with dog fighting. But, despite their reputation, they are no more likely to be aggressive than any other dog. Generally, staffies are intelligent, confident animals that just want to love you! Here are the reasons I will be owning an American Staffordshire Terrier:

1. They are fairly easy to train.

The American Staffordshire Terrier generally isn't as easy to train as a lab or a golden retriever. However, you don't need to be an experienced trainer to make sure your staffie is trained the way you want. Dogbreedinginfo.com says, "almost always obedient, this dog wants nothing more than to please its master." All this dog needs is some love, attention and socialization to be a great family pet!

2. They are so friendly!

American Staffordshire Terriers are great at making friends. The key to making sure they get along well with others pets and people is to socialize them at an early age. This is a great excuse to go out and make friends with other pet owners!

3. They are known as the "nanny dog."

The loyalty an American Staffordshire Terrier has for his or her family gives them a solid family dog reputation. Generally, staffies are very good with children. So much so, they have been given the nickname "nanny dog."

4. They are healthy animals.

Petbreeds.com put the American Staffordshire Terrier on their list of healthiest dog breeds last year. Additionally, they have a lifespan of nine to 12 years. This means less expensive pet visits and more time for playing with each other!

5. They are big — but not too big.

American Staffordshire Terriers stand 17 to 19 inches at the shoulder. This is the perfect cuddle size!

6. They have a medium energy level.

Having energy — but not too much energy — means your dog will love to play, but he won’t need copious amounts of exercise. A staffie’s size in conjunction with its energy level make it suitable for apartment living.

7. They can live in a variety of climates.

They also have a medium tolerance for both warm and cold climates. This is perfect for people like me who aren’t sure where they want to live in the next few years.

8. Their grooming needs are minimal.

Give an American Staffordshire Terrier a bath and clip their nails, and you have a healthy, happy dog. No shaving or trimming necessary!

9. Look at that face!

10. And that majestic body.

American Staffordshire Terriers, Bull Terriers, Pitbulls and other similar dogs may have a bad rap, but if you look at the facts, they make fantastic pets! I highly suggest anyone looking for a dog consider this beautiful and loyal animal.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
