Meditation can be defined as a practice where an individual uses a technique such as focusing their mind on a particular object, thought or activity, to achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm state. There are many benefits to meditation and here are 5 important ones.

1. It opens your mind.

Meditation is a good way to get a grasp on things and recharge your mind. It helps improve tour concentration and self-awareness.

2. It relieves stress.

Meditation is a good time to let go of worry and the things that are bothering you or stressing you out. For most people, their mind is always racing so it is a nice break to put your mind at rest for a least 20 minutes.

3. Increases mental health.

Meditation helps with mental health issues as well. According to Project-Meditation, "75% of insomanics who started a daily meditation program were able to fall asleep within 20 minutes of going to bed," and "60% of anxiety prone people showed marked improvements in anxiety levels after 6-9 months."

4. Betters physical health.

According to The Active Times, meditation has been proven that it helps benefit the immune system and "it also helps lower cholesterol, reduces blood pressure and can protect your against heart disease."

5. Boosts the brain.

According to Greatist, "meditation leads to better focus and higher scores on cognitive tests, all after just 4 days of 20-minute sessions." It also improves your memory as well.

There are different types of meditations. According to The Active Times, there are 3...

1. Mindful meditation.

This is when you sit or lie silently and focus on the sound of your breathing and what is around you.

2. Guided meditation.

This is when you are using a recording or in-person guidance. They guide you through the steps and talk softly that helps put you into meditative mode. I am new at meditating and so this is what I use. It is a good idea for beginners.

3. Concentrative meditation.

This is when you are focusing on a subject or an image. You use this meditation when you want an answer to a question you have and you want to focus on that one answer. Sometimes people just focus on the flame from a candle, which can also be considered as concentrative meditation.

Personally, I feel the need to refresh my mind and take a break from reality. Meditation is a relaxing way to do that. It helps me reduce my stress and it actually helps me go to sleep easier in the night. Meditation has different benefits for each person but meditation will only benefit you. It is something to try. I recommend the guided meditations first just to know what to do. Meditation is a really good way to take care of yourself and your mind.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
