5 Reasons You Should Start Listening To Country Music

Everybody has their favorite genre of music, but a lot of people seem to have a similar hatred of one specific genre: country. I've never understood why people hate on country music so much. Growing up in the south, St. Louis, Missouri, half of the city was pretty rich and the other half was pretty country. About half of my friends listen to country and half of them don't, so here are 5 reasons everybody should.

1. The songs are really catchy

Now I know this applies to all genres of music because you could find any song that gets stuck in your head from anywhere, but hear me out when I say that country songs really are catchy. They have that certain twang to them that you just have to sing along to, and if you don't believe me then go listen to "Crash and Burn" by Thomas Rhett or "5-1-5-0" by Dierks Bentley and get back to me so we can jam out together.

2. It's real music

All the big techno, electric, auto tune that happens in today's pop and rap music plays a very little part in country. A majority of the time you will find the artist on stage playing guitar and actually singing rather than just jumping around. These artists can actually sing too, not just fake it over some auto tune. I can tell you from experience that a concert is a lot more fun to go to when the people on stage can actually hit that high note in real life rather than either hearing them struggle or knowing that they're just lip syncing.

3. The guys are really cute

The guys who sing in the country music genre are most of the time really nice to look at. I don't know what it is about this style of music that attracts all these attractive men, but I'm not going to complain about it. What girl doesn't like a hot guy with a nice singing voice? If you're still not into country music by the end of this article, just say you're a fan for the sole purpose of the cute guys. There's no judgement here.

4. The artists are super nice

Unlike some bigger named artists in other genres of music, country stars tend to be more on the nicer side of the spectrum. There's this morning radio show that's really good called The Bobby Bones Show and they started a Joy Week in March of each year where the whole week is dedicated to being kind to people and spreading joy. Various artists perform on the show during this week just because they want to including Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood, and Keith Urban. Some of them even donate things to auction off for charity. It's refreshing to know that not every big star has the egotistical arrogance as Kanye West.

5. The songs have a meaning

If you're looking for a genuine love song, you can always find one within country music. "I Don't Dance" by Lee Brice and "Die A Happy Man" by Thomas Rhett are two prime examples of true to the heart love songs. Of course there are songs with the stereotypical singing about a tractor, but at least that's better than songs that are about clubbing, getting drunk/high, and sex.

Hopefully these reasons persuade you to give the good ol' hick music a try and start a new chapter in your life that's filled with a pair of blue jeans and cold beer on a Friday night.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
