The 2016 Rio Olympic Games will be hosting 7's Rugby for the first time ever. Although, Rugby 15's was played from 1900 to 1924 in the olympics, this is a completely different game and it will be one of the most exciting events of the whole Olympics and these are all the reasons why.
1. The game is quick and competitive
Matches last just 15 minutes two halves of seven minutes plus a minute break played on a full sized rugby field. Also, no draws are permitted so they settle ties in over time. With the games being this short it is some of the toughest 15 minutes you'll ever see.
2. The intensity of the game is not easily compared to any other sort of match.
Conversions points in a Sevens match must be taken within 40 seconds of a try being scored kickers and are only allowed to drop kick the conversion to ensure that no time is being wasted.
3. Action packed throughout each match will make it hard to look away.
In Sevens, a scrum is only contested by three players.Since the scrum will be so small the games will be all about speed and tackling making this one of the most exciting games to watch.
4. The history of the game, which might be what initially drew you in...
As mentioned earlier, this will be the first time in the History of the Olympics that Rugby 7's will be considered an Olympic Event, witnessing this will be a story to tell for the ages to be able to say that you were able to see a Rugby 7's team receive the greatest honor in all of sports live in 2016.
5. But those Rugby thighs will keep you watching...
Rugby is keeping those shorts short for our legs to be admired in all of their glory.
6. Rugby is also by far the most aggressive sport in the olympics.
Every moment is a battle.
7. The game, like soccer is continuous so there isn't a moment of boredom or waiting.
8. You have to fight for every inch.
Not only do you have to get into the try zone but you must also touch the ball on the ground in the try zone in order to score.
9. In Rugby you can get really creative....
No, you can't throw the ball forward. Yes, you can kick pass forward.
10. It is the ultimate team sport.
Rugby teams are family they eat, breath, bleed and sweat rugby. The saying "you are only as strong as your weakest link" is more true than ever when it comes to rugby.11. Most importantly, Rugby players are some crazy dudes.
You have to be a special kind of crazy to play rugby.
