Reasons Not To Rescue A Cat

There aren't any.

Absolutely none.

But there plenty of reasons to adopt cats.

Such as...

1. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, there are over 70 million stray cats living on the streets of the United States.

That's 70 million fuzzy little friends who spend their days without a stable supply of food, warmth, and love. That's 70 million fuzzy little friends who could have their lives changed if you simply make a visit to your local animal shelter and choose to give one of them a better life.

2. Around 2.7 million dogs and cats are euthanized in a year

If more people spent time visiting local shelters and adopting those pets, versus spending hundreds of dollars on kittens in pet stores, there would be more room in shelters to house kittens and less pets being killed annually.

3. They're low key pets with few demands

Unlike dogs which require daily walks, and lots of play time, cats are much more low key requiring food, water, and some love and affection. They don't need to be trained, because litter boxes are pretty much an instinct. And they're incredibly independent, only seeking you when they want some affection. No more having to worry about getting home before they have an accident, they can take care of themselves.

4. They're naturally goofy

Whether it's getting stuck in a box, playing with receipts, or other goofy antics, cats are constant entertainment. Give them a paper towel roll and they're bound to entertain you.

5. They'll teach you all about patience

Kittens/cats in shelters have probably faced some trying times. Be it lack of food, abuse from harsh temperatures or evil hearted past owners, they aren't in a shelter for any old reason. Choosing to adopt a cat from a shelter, is promising to be patient even when they bring you frustrations. Maybe they won't be loving and cuddly at first, or maybe they'll run and hide at any little sound. As their new parent, it's your job to be patient and offer your love even when they test you. They're learning just as much as you are, and in the end, it will be one of the most rewarding experiences.

6. You will save a life

As someone who recently became a rescue mom, I often look at my little fuzzball and wonder what life may have been like for her if I hadn't saved her. She may have ended up in an abusive home, starving, or even dead. To know that I've given her a chance at a good life, and in return received so much love, is a comforting feeling.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
