I, of course, love living in New York City year round, but winter is just better. As soon as that first snowflake falls there is something instantly soothing about the "city that never sleeps". Here are my favorite things about being in NYC in the winter:

1. Santa Con

Of course, there are Santa cons around the world, but NYC is by far the best. It's free (you can donate if you want), you get to dress up like Santa and drink with your friends. The location of the event is not released until the night before so it's super exclusive.

2. Snow

"There's nothing more wonderful than New York City in the winter except the view of New York City in the winter through your apartment window" - "How I Met Your Mother"

3. The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree

Okay, real New Yorkers usually don't go to the actual lighting, but we still love it. Seeing that giant tree lit up in the middle of the city, there's no feeling quite like it.

4. Decorations around the city

Stores in Manhattan, like Macy's and Lord & Taylor, have amazing holiday displays starting in December.

5. Bryant Park's Winter Village

Even with a significantly smaller tree than Rockefeller Center, the Winter Village does not disappoint. There is ice skating, open holiday markets, and food vendors.

6. Radio City Christmas Spectacular

I must say the Rockettes and friends put on an amazing show. I hope I'm not the only one who wanted to be a Rockette when she was younger.

7. Holiday markets

There a bunch of holiday markets that pop up December-January. The best ones are in Union Square and Grand Central.

8. Fashion Week

New York City's fashion week is usually the first week of February. They show off the latest styles and have a great celebrity lineup.

If you haven't visited NYC during the winter, please do so. I promise you won't regret it.

I'm sure, like me, many of you received lots of gift cards over the holidays. After working retail seasonally, here are a few tips that I learned in order to make the employees at your favorite store just a little happier and not want to charge you extra on your purchase for being awful. Here are some times when you should be nicer to retail workers than you actually are!

5 Untold Struggles Of The Short Friend

I'm the Short Friend. I've been the Short Friend since about the seventh grade. I'm the one who stands in the front of the photos, gets made fun of for their height, and still shops in the kids department.

This article is not for the Almost Short Friends, i.e. the 5'3" and 5'4" Friends. No no, this is for the Actually Short Friends, i.e. the Barely Scraping 5'1" and shorter Short Friends.

11 Things All Call Center Workers Can Empathize With Better Than Anyone
Youtube

This semester I started my journey as a member of my University's Alumni Outreach Team. This means a lot of things, but primarily it means that I get to make phone calls to parents and alumni two nights a week to update contact information, collect things like business cards and volunteer hours, and even ask for money.
