Starting a new school year can be exciting, but a lot of times it also involves moving into a new place and getting re-adjusted. You might be starting at a new school or living with new roommates. No matter what your story is, the process is stressful. Whether you’re moving into a dorm, an apartment, or a house, the struggle of moving is a process we tend to dread. Here are some of the major parts of moving that we all struggle through:
Finding Help
If you’re anything like me, you kind of just own a lot of stuff. Sometimes it all piles up and you don’t even realize it until all of your things are in a concentrated area. Because most Americans tend to hang on to more than we need, moving in is generally a process you need some help with. From getting your stuff out of a storage unit, to renting a U-Haul, to even asking random boys with trucks to help you haul your stuff around, you should be ready to call in some favors.
Boxes
Whether it's loading them into your car, unloading them into your new place, putting stuff into them, or taking stuff out of them, boxes will consume your life. Not to mention the fact that the dumpsters will be filled to the brim with empty ones and that boxes will most likely be taking over your new home for a couples days as well.
Unpacking
After having to put all of your belongings into a limited number of boxes, you will also have to take all of that stuff out and get it settled back in once again. Unpacking is the worst because you know that in just a year or so you’ll have to be putting it all back into boxes once again.
Re-Organizing
There’s nothing worse than being fresh at a new place and not knowing where all of your things are yet. Putting all of your things in their rightful spots and getting an understanding as to where all of your stuff is takes time. And the process of reorganizing all of your things in a manor that looks nice and provides you with easy access to your things takes tons of time and effort.
Shopping
The new textbooks, utensils, clothes, bedspread, decorations, pillows, etc. will all be things that you spend tons of time searching for. As you go through the process, you will begin to think of everything that you’ve forgotten. Sometimes it’s something meaningless like a new map for your wall and other times it’s something much more essential like your deodorant that you left back at home (if you forgot that, please run to the store ASAP). Receipts will take over your wallet and you’ll be left feeling broke.
Decorating
Thanks to Pinterest, this job has become a little easier. But, this is the place where you will be spending the next year…or two or three, so you have to make it feel like home. Your trips to Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Target, and Wal-Mart will drive you crazy, but will also inspire your creative juices to flow.
And once you finish doing all of this, you better save some time and energy to mentally prepare for school starting back up. Good luck!
