We all go through a phase in our life where we have to work at a minimum wage job. It’s a part of life, a check point if you will. Some people just never leave it. And that is okay. The purpose of this is not to diminish anyone for their job.
With that being said, however, minimum wage jobs are geared towards the age group 16-25. This is the time in your life where you are starting to take on more responsibilities. Maybe pay your own phone bill or car insurance, or you just want some extra cash to blow with your friends. Whatever the reason is, we all reach a point in our life where we no longer rely on mommy and daddy for money. And I'll tell you it blows. It's awesome to finally be making your own money to spend on whatever you want (or in my case bills- thanks adulthood), but minimum wage jobs are no picnic in the park. After high school before securing that big job with a real life degree, you will have to trudge through endless hours of retail or burger patty flipping to make ends meet. At times you will think “Is this terrible job worth it?”
Here is why, though necessary, working minimum wage jobs are terrible:
1. The Customers
There are good ones and bad ones. Unfortunately, many customers who come in are rude and looking for a fight. If there is one thing customers do best it is complain... and yell. People get mad over everything and guess who is standing right there to take the hit? That's right, it's you.
2. The Co-workers
I think Kevin says all there is to say on this one. 3. The Pay
Of course minimum wage means minimum, and I don't think it should be raised. Even if you agree, you will still feel gypped when you check your pay stub. You will feel like you worked way more hours than you were paid for, but that's just how it goes.
4. The Benefits
Or should I say lack there of. Minimum wage workers might as well be in the wild.
5. The Boss
We've all had that boss that gets nothing productive done, leaving us to pick up the slack. Just like with customers though you have to put up with their nonsense, all the while grinning and bearing it.
Minimum wage jobs are a part of life. I mean someone has to do it. Kudos to those who deal with the horror every day.
