Going into college, I'm sure I wasn't the only one who thought "How will I get involved and make new friends?" or "What organizations do I want to spend my time and effort?" During Freshman Orientation, I saw the members of Student Association and immediately knew that was where I was meant to be; those were my people. I wouldn't be the student and professional I am today without Student Association and the family I have created.
1. This experience teaches you how to organize and lead a team.
But this isn't just about telling people what to do, it's about teaching and guiding those around you so that they campus as a whole can come together. It applies to real life and teaches you how to work with administration and our peers.
2. You'll have so many inside jokes.
You do spend hours a week with these people and I can't even begin to explain all the jokes that have come up in the meetings that last until 1 AM. I wouldn't want to spend that much time with any other organization or group of people!
3. You gain unbelievable relationships.
You may first enter into Student Association as an Associate Director or as part of a committee in Senate, which gives you someone to look up to. I have received the chance to be an Executive Director since my Sophomore year, and I have loved every second of it. I love hearing my AD's ideas, and teaching them the ropes of how SA works.
4. You get to go to so many amazing events.
Now, all events are open to students, but getting there early to help set up can be even better. Like getting to ride on a zip-line before anyone else shows up, and getting to have dinner with some of your favorite bands.
5. Memories
I hate to be so cliche, but the memories of the events and relationships I have created will never leave my heart. When I think of those inside jokes during the summer, its what always brings me back to TU. The family that I have gained these past two years will never go unchanged.
