It's not like the movies.

Sorority life is NOT like the movies. It’s better! Here’s why...

1. Small(er) group, big campus.

For A&M, the phrase "big campus" is a gross understatement. Going to a school with 68,603 students can be overwhelming. I felt really lost my first few weeks, and not just because I couldn't find my classes. With my sorority, I feel like I have a place of belonging. I fit in somewhere with a group of people I am comfortable with. I am not lost in a sea of students. Now I have sisters I see regularly and run into on campus! It's so nice to walk to class and have a friendly face ask about your day.

2. Friendships build quickly.

Being sisters creates a special bond. With a sister, you can talk about anything! There’s a level of comfort with sorority sisters that you may not feel with others you meet on campus. When you spend more time with a sister, the friendship grows so much faster and deeper than friendships you make in class. Plus, Your sisters aren't just a study group. They will stick around when the semester ends.

3. Philanthropy.

Every sorority has their own philanthropy. Being in an organization dedicated to helping others is really rewarding. People will see you on campus wearing your shirt and ask about your philanthropy events. Being able to serve others and perform acts of kindness makes you feel good and uplifts your sisters!

4. The t-shirts.

Yes, we dress cute and look nice too! But the giant, comfy t-shirt will always reign supreme. It is the choice outfit for most adolescent and young adult women in the South. It's a look. When done properly, the style is not sloppy. It's extremely cute, an important part of southern and sorority culture, and forever srat. (note: I have yet to hear or see someone actually use the term "srat" or any other similar, obnoxiously "basic" term) You will find me in an XL comfort colors 89.96% of the time, and I am proud of this look, despite anyone else's opinion.

5. Lifetime bonds.

I know that after college, when I'm thrown into this obscure, mystical thing people refer to as "the real world", I will have sisters to lean on when I need something! Whether it's a a job reference, a long phone call, a job connection, a set of bridesmaids, or an annual reunion trip, I know I will have my sisters to be there. Also, having a special bond with your big and little is an important part of sisterhood. You are adopted into a family consisting of your big, her big, and so on.

6. No judgment.

With your sisters, you will and should never feel any judgment. Everyone is included in events and welcomed to hang out with each other! There are no exclusive cliques. Sure, there are friend groups, but there will be no "you cant sit with us" business. You are already sisters, so you can really be yourself, which helps make friendships grow crazy fast.

7. The house.

Whether you live in the house or not, going there and spending time with the girls is so fun! If you need someone to talk to, a place to study, an escape from the dorm, or anything else you can go to the house and be with your sisters!

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
