Attending college in Florida has made me miss home, and there are countless reasons I am proud to call the beautiful city of Pittsburgh, home. Aside from topping "Forbes" and "The Economists" 'Most Livable City' list multiple times in recent years, the city of Pittsburgh has more to offer than first meets the eye.
1. The views at night.
The most popular in this category is Mount Washington. The round overlook platforms hang above the cities entire skyline, showcasing the convergence of the three rivers, bridges and skyscrapers. There are, however several other spots to grab a view of the city's night skyline. Head down to The Point to see the fountain lit up and catch eye-level views of the rivers and the north shore's two sports stadiums. If that doesn't satisfy, there is always the walkway along the river between PNC Park and Heinz Field. Wherever you choose to go, The skyline is one of a kind and beautiful.
2. Sports.
Pittsburgh is a city that is passionate about its sports teams. Whether its the Steelers, Pirates or Penguins, the whole city appears to join together as one on game days. That is, regardless of the teams standing or win-loss record. Three beautiful stadiums each have many features to offer fans, such as the skyline at PNC Park. Living in Pittsburgh, "The City of Champions," has turned me into a huge sports fan, and I wouldn't want it any other way.
3. We experience all four seasons.
From a flower blooming spring, to a summer of fun and sun, to fall foliage and a white Christmas, Pittsburgh has every season, sometimes all in one day. It is truly special to have such a distinct four seasons, and Pittsburghers take advantage by participating in an array of activities during each season.
4. Incredible bridges.
From almost any view in downtown Pittsburgh, you can catch a glimpse of a bridge spanning across the top of one of the three rivers. Each are bold in architectural design, with large arches and a characteristic color of yellow; just another beauty along the Pittsburgh skyline that's visible for miles.
5. The Strip District.
Small fruit stands and tee shirt vendors line the streets, with specialty locally owned stores among its storefronts. Catch a classic fish sandwich at Wholey's, or grab some freshly baked bread from Mancini's bakery. Whatever sparks your taste buds, be sure to cruise the lively street on a Saturday morning.
