The temperature is starting to drop, and so are the leaves. The air is becoming a bit crisper while the days become a bit shorter. Pumpkin spice lattes are officially back at Starbucks, and our most basic friend has probably already post a selfie on Instagram with one. While fall might not be here officially for another couple of weeks, all signs point to this beloved season. If you’re still longing for the dog days of summer, let me remind you why fall is something to look forward to:
1. Pumpkin-flavored Everything
I hate to admit that I love pumpkin spice lattes as much as the next girl, but everything packed with pumpkin flavor is one of the greatest things about fall. Pumpkin Delights are back on the shelves at Walmart, pumpkin ice cream is officially in at Cold Stone, and pumpkin doughnuts are fresh at our friendly neighborhood doughnut shops. Just reading this is probably making your mouth water.
2. College Football
I will be the first to say that my extent of interest in the college football world ends with the fact that Urban Meyer is a total fox. I may not clamor into the horseshoe at any point this season, or fill out a prediction bracket, but I sure do love seven-layer taco dip. College football is one of the best things about fall, though maybe not for the football. It is the people you spend Saturday afternoons with, on the couch in a sweatshirt eating finger food while the game is on, or tailgating in the parking lot before the big game, that is one the highlights of this season.
3. Cuddle Season
Whether it’s you by yourself wrapped in a blanket with your favorite stuffed animal, a group nap with your best friends, or a sleepy afternoon with a special someone—it is finally cool enough to get cozy. Naps in the summer, winter, and spring are necessary. Naps in the fall are pure delight, especially when you’re all cuddled up against the fresh, cool air.
4. Outdoor Activities
The fall doesn't leave you drenched in sweat for merely walking to your car, or chill you bones with cold. It refreshes you, and makes you comfortable in a simple jeans and sweatshirt combo. That makes fall the perfect season for outdoor activities. Some of us enjoy a simple backyard bonfire. Others plunge headfirst into harvest-season fun by completing corn mazes, building scarecrows, playing in the leaves, and carving pumpkins.
5. Nature at Its Finest
If the myriad of hues scattered about the ground and falling lightly from trees doesn’t move you in some way, I am now silently questioning your humanity. During fall, everything seems a bit more beautiful. Campuses and cities alike are blanketed in the beauty of reds, yellows, oranges, and even purples. Who can help but to enjoy nature in this state?
