Home cooked meals, my cozy bed, and my friends are just the beginning. Lexington has captured a place in my heart and I am happy to call is my second home or home away from home, but there is something about little ole Madison County, Ohio that will always have my heart. Going from the middle of nowhere in the country to a giant city like Lexington is a big change and makes you miss the smaller things that you didn't even know you cherished. Here are 12 things I cherish from back home.
1. Sunsets
A sunset with a bunch of buildings in front of it just isn't the same as the sun setting over an open field. It truly is the little things in life and yes, I took that photo.
2. My friends
Literally, all of my friends go to school back home or at least near our hometown. I'm the only one that goes out of state so, it would be wrong of me to not visit when I'm home.
3. The fam
Almost all of my family lives back home and if I don't visit periodically they will have some things to say about it. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
4. Fire pit nights
Throughout the year, my parents have what we call "fire pit nights." We invite our closest friends to enjoy a night around the fire while listening to music and having the best conversations. It's always great when I get to attend because I'm home from college.
5. Football games
Whether it's catching a game at your alma mater or going to The Ohio State University to watch the Buckeyes (sorry Wildcats), going home is always a great time for some more football.
6. Going to the grain bins
Fall time calls for harvest when your dad is a farmer. This means I have to go out to the grain bins if I want to see him for the next two months when I am home.
7. My bed
There is nothing better than your bed at home and no matter how hard you try, your bed at college just doesn't compare. There's the perfect amount of blankets, the right temperature, you're drowning in pillows. It's a dream come true.
8. Home cooked meals
Honestly, what's better when you come home from college? I always have a list prepared of all the meals I want or have been craving when I come home.
9. Catching up on recorded episodes
I only ever watch Netflix or Hulu at college so going home is the perfect time for me to catch up on all of my favorite series that I've been missing out on.
10. My cat
Even though she is the most annoying cat I've ever had and doesn't shut up, there's nothing better than being greeted at the door by a fur ball when you come back home.
11. Hunting
A lot of people go hunting in my hometown, which means if it's cold out you're usually in a woods somewhere climbing up a deer stand. This is something I always make time to come home for and have been doing since I was little.
12. Driving on back roads
Driving up I-71 North and through Cincinnati isn't the view you're used to when you grow up in the country. When I come home, it's nice being the only one on the road, driving in between cornfields and woods.
Moving away to a big city has really made me appreciate the little things and big things that my hometown has to offer. It's crazy the things that you miss that you never even noticed you enjoyed before you left.
