Whatever happened to good ole' face-to-face communication? Ya know the kind of communication people relied solely on in the 80s? If they said they were going to take you out on date and pick you up at 7pm sharp you had to take their word for it. There was no "I'm on my way" or "here" text message. By the way, ladies that is the very least a man could do if he's taking you out on a date. Society keeps saying "chivalry is dead" but not if it is demanded. New aged technology advances seem to only make the dating process harder. Why? Everyone is constantly looking down at their phones. Look up, people! Guys and gals get out there and talk to people. Tinder, the dating app is a prime example of how 2016 "dating" has evolved into a hookup culture.
Here are 5 reasons why I have a problem with the artificial-ness of Tinder:
1. Let's Hookup
Well, you got to give it to Derek for cutting to the chase..I guess. The initial problem with Tinder is the intentions of what people are hoping to gain from the app. Hanging out for some people literally means hanging out, and for others it implies sex. Like Derek, most people are just trying have a quick fling. For the small percentage of people genuinely seeking to meet new people this app is not to be trusted.
2. Superficial
Not photogenic? Then you will most likely be getting a swipe to the left unfortunately. We are judgmental people as much as I hate to admit it. Looking at a picture does not reveal anything about someone's personality. You might be missing out by swiping left. That is why it is always better to just put yourself out there in the first place.
3. Having a Type
If you are only into tan guys, 6'2'' or taller, dark hair, brown eyes, with glasses because that's your "type," then you might be missing out on meeting someone really cool. Who knows the next guy or gal might be the complete opposite of what you thought was "your type."
4. Sounding Appealing
I
Another downside of Tinder, is sounding appealing to other people. Personally speaking, I am a very complex person. There are so many things that could fit in the about me box that I would rather just talk about in person. I don't know how to sound cool. Do you want to know about the time I scraped my knee when I was 7, went on a hike last week or how I binge watch Breaking Bad?
5. Organic Connections
Most importantly, you can't force love. Timing is everything. Everything happens for a reason so in the mean time, use your time of being single to figure out who you are completely before the one comes along.
