Ok, I love clothes. I mean, I really love clothes. But recently, I have been doing a lot of reading on minimalism and capsule wardrobes and I am inspired to say the least. Clothing is almost considered disposable in our society. We just buy whatever we kind of like and hoard it and then throw it away when we're done. Then we go out and spend a couple of hundred dollars on more disposable clothing.
Here are some of the reasons I am considering ditching my walk-in closet for a capsule wardrobe.
1. Less time getting ready in the morning
Just imagine, if you had 4 pairs of pants, 10 or 12 shirts, and 4 or 5 good pairs of shoes that all coordinated! How much time would you save? I don't know about you, but nearly 20 minutes of my morning routine is spent being surrounded by clothing and having nothing to wear. I'm beginning to think having all of those choices may just be the problem.
2. Less money wasted
Try to picture all of the clothes in your closet. Now picture how many you actually wear. All of those "OMG, this is only $15!" and "I promise I'll wear it" pieces are just collecting dust. Except for the 2 times a year you decide to put them on. Would you even miss them if they were gone? The whole idea of a capsule wardrobe is not to own or buy too many clothes that aren't useful or versatile.
3. De-cluttering is good for the soul
For someone with as much stress as me, clutter just adds to the list of things to worry about. Having a minimalist wardrobe would mean less clutter in my closet and maybe it would even spread to the other areas of my life.
4. It's chic
Less has truly become more. Everywhere I look on Pinterest, Instagram, Tumblr, etc., minimalism has the spotlight. If you're one to keep up with trends, the trend is to own less. Look at these pictures of capsule wardrobes and see for yourself:
Beautiful, aren't they?
Maybe I'm just crazy and trying to jump on a short-lived train but this movement is definitely a tempting one. Even for a clothing lover like myself.
