If you haven’t binge watched "The Office" yet, share this article so you can re-read it after you’ve experienced the magic of this sitcom.
I can admit with no shame, I have re-watched this series on Netflix at least 15 times. This is the show that’s been there for me- making me laugh through breakups, failing college exams and just genuinely screwing up in life like any normal person. Here are five reasons why I have fallen in love with this show, and suggest it everyone.
Attention: Spoiler Alerts Ahead
1. Jim and Pam’s relationship
We as "The Office" fan base pushed for these two characters to be together since episode one. The way these two lovebirds give secret smiles and glances to each other makes my heart melt.
Something I appreciate about this relationship is how it’s perfectly imperfect. We talk about this show applauding the way Jim proposed to Pam in the middle of a rain storm, and the unforgettable wedding episode at Niagra Falls, but things were not always perfect.
Pam had been engaged to the warehouse worker Roy, for so long, and seemed to be trapped in a relationship that was going nowhere. Although Jim put his feelings on the line at the end of Season 2, Pam rejected him and broke both Jim and the viewer’s hearts.
After that, he moved on, and hope was almost lost. In addition to that, their marriage went through a rough time that lasted almost all the way through the final season.
This relationship between two people who are perfect together goes to show that love isn’t easy. Unlike most television shows today, it gives viewers a real representation of two people who have fallen in love, and are mature enough to admit their flaws.
2. Michael. Gary. Scott
Whether you love him or hate him, Michael Scott is the face of the show. Through countless shenanigans and personal redemptions, he appears to be both the protagonist, as well as the antagonist.
Through his stupidity and ignorance towards every social norm, he makes viewers both laugh and cringe of embarrassment. But no matter how uncomfortable and irriated he can make us, we always seem to be rooting for him.
How can we not encourage him? He’s a branch manager, screenwriter, (future) book writer of “Somehow I Manage,” condo owner and once started his own paper company. Michael showed us that no matter how many times we may screw up, we can do our best work when people underestimate our skills.
Not only that, but he provided us countless memorable episodes such as:
The Golden Ticket
The Dinner Party
The Roast Of Michael Scott
3. Ryan and Kelly
I know what you’re thinking if you watch this show: “Why are they one of the reasons you love the show?” Well, I’ll tell you why. Though we can all agree Jim and Pam make the perfect couple, Ryan and Kelly are the couple we love to hate.
Their constant breakups keep us groaning and eye-rolling, but let’s ask ourselves one question: How many couples do you know that are exactly like these two? The media can set these beautiful expectations of love and romance, but we should be expecting to find more men like Ryan, and women like Kelly.
These two are not perfect for each other, and their co-dependence and constant toxic nature can be repulsive, but it teaches us that sometimes we have to go through a relationship like this in order to find our fairytale romance.
I watched this show and wanted to grab Kelly and say, “Stop getting back together with him! You’re better than that,” then I realized I had acted just like Kelly in my everyday life.
We may act like a Ryan or a Kelly, but someday we’ll realize we have the power and strength to be a Jim or a Pam.
4. Constant pranking
Dwight and Jim’s feud provides some of the most entertaining moments of the show. When the show’s drama gets too heavy- they include some hilarious scenes between these two desk mates.
Instead of telling you about these, I’d rather show you:
5. The Accounting Team
Kevin, Angela and Oscar make the most dynamic and underrated trio at Dunder Mifflin. Their personalities range from an uptight cat-lover, a lovable idiot and a know-it-all. They may not always get along, but they’re diamonds in the rough in the show. All three of these characters have redeeming and relatable qualities, such as the way Kevin can fit a large quantity of M&M’s in his mouth at one time, Oscar’s on point work apparel and the way Angela is able to pull herself through becoming a single-parent.
Their personal relationship drama keeps us hooked on the show, and their unique and individual personalities steal our hearts.
