As of Thursday, August 22nd, it is officially the fall season. Though it still feels like summer quite a bit of the time, it is nice that all of the things we love about autumn is just around the corner! Here are the top 10 reasons why this season is one to be excited about.

1. It gets cooler.

Though summer is amazing at the beginning, by the end of it, it has become ridiculous. Having to deal with the heat every single day gets really tiring and the change is welcome.

2. The bugs are gone

Summer is a truly wonderful time, but one of the most annoying things about it is the constant bugs. Hornets, wasps, mosquitos, oh my! There are so many bugs when you go outside, and one of the welcomed changes of fall is seeing them finally go away...until the next summer.

3. Sweater dresses with tights.

This combination is beyond cute, and really comfortable. It is great to know that for a few months, sweater dresses with either tights or leggings can be worn. It looks both casual and dressy, depending on how you accentuate it with jewelry and hair!

4. The colors

Though trees with green leaves are beautiful, as the leaves change and cover the ground, it creates a wonderful effect. They crunch when stepped on, and it gives the feeling that you truly are one with the world around you.

5. Pumpkin flavored everything.

People tend to make fun of stereotypical “white girls” for loving pumpkin spice, but let’s be honest. It is one of the best flavors, and the fact that it can only be obtained for a few months of the year makes it even more of a special treat.

6. Corn mazes

Corn mazes are an attraction that is often associated with the fall season. It gives a wonderful sense of chaos in an environment that keeps you safe at the same time. Though it might feel as if participants will be hopelessly lost in the corn for eternity, they also know that is not the case, giving a sense of fun to being lost.

7. Caramel apples

Though not as healthy as the non-caramel alternative, caramel apples are a wonderful fall treat. It’s especially exciting when they’re cut into slices, making it easier to eat the apple without making a huge mess.

8. Haunted houses

This is one of the events that can easily become tradition among friends. Though the line to get in is more often than not longer than the time you’ll actually spend in the house, it is an unforgettable experience. Sometimes, the memories you make while standing in line are even better than the memories of the attraction itself!

9. Halloween

The best holiday of the year, without a doubt. The freedom of being allowed to wear whatever you want without being judged in the process is so rejuvenating. On top of that, it is pretty common to be able to obtain free candy, which is also a major plus.

10. The start of the holiday season

The day after Thanksgiving (and even before then in many cases), people officially start getting into the spirit of Christmas. It is a great thing to watch, as everyone seems to be happier, more giving, and everything just has a sense of perfection to it.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
