Why I Cannot Support Donald Trump

A Case For Standing Against Hatred

Why I Cannot Support Donald Trump
Quartz

Last Friday, some videos came out that featured Donald Trump saying some pretty horrific stuff about women. I will not write out what he said, because I don't want to validate it any more than it already has been.

However, what bothers me even more than the disgusting language and sexual perversion Trump repeatedly displays is that some people still defend him or completely write off his behavior. Before I continue further, this does not mean that I'm endorsing Clinton. I still don't know who I'm voting for, but certainly not Trump. I may only vote for state and district levels and abstain from the presidential vote.

Those who defend Trump are defending hate.

Here are a few examples:

They defended him when he first began campaigning, even though he called Mexican immigrants rapists and drug dealers and refused to retract his statements.

They defended him when he alluded to Megyn Kelly being on her period as a reason for questioning him during an early primary debate.

Even when he called for a total and complete ban on all Muslims entering the US, many people jumped to his defense.

Many people looked the other way when he mocked a disabled reporter.

I would think, that when a candidate is openly endorsed by Ku Klux Klan supporters, that would give most people significant pause.

I would think, that when a candidate doesn't understand why nuclear weapons need to be carefully handled, that would disquiet most people.

I would think, that when evidence comes to the surface about deep financial entanglement with the Russians, it would upset people.

I could go on with many more horrifying Trump moments. Shouldn't these examples be enough to preclude him from holding public office? I am at a loss as to how he just keeps on being supported when any other candidate, either Republican OR Democrat, would be thoroughly eviscerated for even daring to utter such things.

I've provided you with evidence, but I also want to tell you why I cannot support Donald Trump, and never did.

Should he become president, it will be a nightmare for my dear friends who are minorities. It is dehumanizing to suggest that one race or ethnicity is lower than another. In addition, it's a gross generalization to say that all Muslims are terrorists. The Lord has called us to love our neighbors as ourselves, and that means all neighbors, not just the ones we like.

I also have major reservations about someone who has never respected women in his life, and resorts to nasty comments about looks or sexual appeal when confronted. I am more than my body, weight and uterus. I don't care if I rate a ten or not.

Finally, I am saddened at the normalization of such behavior and comments in our society. It's not a matter of political correctness. It is a matter of kindness and decency. Decent people do not mock the disabled. Decent people do not sexually assault women. Decent people do not insult at the slightest provocation.

I hope that by the time the next election rolls around, both parties will have presented kind, future-minded, and stable candidates that actually discuss policies and give us plans about how to enact those policies.

One last thought: if you are a Trump supporter, I do not hate you.

All I ask is that you consider who you're voting for (and yes, I know Clinton has her share of skeletons in the closet) and if you are wiling to endorse that behavior.

As Christians, we should love and care about one another, instead of ripping one another apart. Should you comment on my article, please keep it civil.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
