10 Reasons I Don't Miss High School All That Much

10 Reasons I Don't Miss High School All That Much

High school is/was an awkward time; although there were fun times, I am not one of those people who considers high school to be the best four years of your life or could stay in high school forever.

College has made me come to the realization that I would never, ever, ever want to go back for the following reasons:

1. Getting to sleep-in at college:

I probably spent more time in high school walking through the halls looking and feeling like a zombie.

2. THE DRAMA!

We thought our high school drama was up there with The Jersey Shore and Laguna Beach, but it was mostly drawn-out fights that started out as rumors that will be the topic of discussion for weeks.

3. The cafeteria food:

If your parents didn't make your lunches...I'm sorry.

Also in college you don't eat on the school's schedule just on your own.

4. There's no nap time like there is in college:

5. Dress codes:

Because the teachers and the entire high school administration didn't believe in showing shoulders or much legs when most high schools (or mine at least) had no air conditioning--just so girls wouldn't be a "distraction" to boys getting their education.

6. The duration of high school:

When you get to college, classes are roughly four hours each day, compared to the eight hours of high school--not including school sports and the hours spent doing homework.

7. The lack of learning:

I think the biggest thing I've learned in college is difference in the classes I am taking now versus the ones I took in high school. Though science and math is great, there is no reason why high school seniors shouldn't be learning how to balance a check book or file for taxes in school.

8. The cliques:

Maybe the clique you were in was filled with a bunch of awesome people, but the fact there is that there are still labels for groups of people based on things they like or what they look like, which isn't benefiting any student.

9. The lack of trust:

I know there are some rules that are needed in school, but to me, high school almost stripped independent freedoms from these almost adults. How are we supposed to become adults and gain maturity when we weren't allowed to bring our own water bottles from home?

10. Covering up who you really are:

SERIOUSLY. There is a reason college is the time to "reinvent yourself", because no one cared what you did in high school. You aren't labeled because no one is interested in knowing anything about you--which is an awesome feeling.

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
