The days leading up to Christmas always put me in a good mood. My days are filled with large mugs of hot chocolate, bags of peppermint candy, tons of gingerbread, and a whole lot of giving. The Christmas season always brightens my mood and lifts my spirits, so here are 8 reasons why I think Christmas is the best time of year.

1. Christmas lights

Christmas lights make everything so magical. I always enjoy driving around town looking at the various houses that are all decked out for Christmas. There are also beautiful light displays that are always fun to enjoy with family during the holiday season.

2. Winter break

A month off of school? Who wouldn't love winter break? Winter break provides a time to see friends from home and family that you haven't seen since the summer. It is also the time to catch up on all of the sleep you missed out on during finals season.

3. Good food

Christmas is full of chances to eat good food. It's like Thanksgiving 2.0!

4. Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas

I LOVE Christmas movies, and Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas is something that I look forward to for months! Not only are there 25 days of Christmas movies, but there is also the countdown to the 25 Days of Christmas! My personal favorites include Holiday in Handcuffs and The Santa Clause.

5. Giving

Christmas is the time of year for giving. Usually, my family will donate toys, clothes, and other items to children in need. It always makes me feel good to know that I can help someone else have a great Christmas.

6. Hot chocolate

I drink hot chocolate all year round because I don't drink coffee, but the Christmas season gives me even more of an excuse to drink it. My personal favorite is the peppermint hot chocolate at Starbucks that they serve during this time of year.

7. Christmas music

This is the time of year that I can listen to Christmas music without being judged. Any other time of year people look at me skeptically. Now I can freely listen to Mariah Carey and Michael Bublé without getting strange looks.

8. All the treats

Everyone is always making some type of treat in December. My favorites are the pretzels with a Hershey Kiss and an M&M on top. Christmas gives me an excuse to eat all of the treats without feeling too guilty!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
