You want to eat that last slice of cake, but you cant afford to gain weight. I've been there — obsessed with maintaining a specific weight, but what exactly is the right size? In society, size does matter. In fact, it seems to be the only thing we are preoccupied with. Women are often body shamed for not being a size 0 or for being a size 12.
Why is it that a young girl in an extra-small feels she's too big and needs to lose weight? Society! By our standards, anything bigger than a medium is obese. So, women are objectified for being anything more than super model small. As a woman who doesn't fit into the standards of society, I am often the object of harsh comments, rude looks and much more. The way I stay on top of my game and ignore the comments is by realizing size doesn't matter and here's four reasons why:
1. You're beautiful just the way you are
Maybe you're struggling with your weight. You might weigh a little more than you would like to or a little less and you're trying to get into your goal weight. Relax, workout, eat, be healthy — it'll happen in time do not rush perfection. What matters most is being comfortable and loving your body just the way it is because you are beautiful.
2. You're healthy
If your body wanted you to be a size zero, then you'd be a size zero. Instead, you're a certain size with a healthy metabolism and diet because it's what your body wants for you. A lot of the reasons you are the way you are fall under genetics. Don't starve yourself because you're not as thin as you'd like. As long as you're healthy, you can be 10 pounds or 250 pounds; it doesn't matter.
3. You're a college student
Your diet usually consists of pizza, soda and beer — maybe with a healthy meal thrown in on occasion. You have classes, work, club activities and you barely sleep. Sleep is necessary for a healthy diet; without much sleep, it's easier to gain weight. Also, keg stands on the weekends, every weekend, is bound to give you a beer belly. If you're too busy being a college student, you're bound to gain weight calm down its normal.
4. Everyone is fat
This is my favorite excuse to use when people body shame me. According to the model world, we're all fat. Things are so twisted in modeling that if you're above a size 5, you're considered too big. I don't know about anyone else, but size 5-10 seems like a pretty normal size for me. Actually, the average person is between the sizes 8 and 12. So if you're ever approached by someone with rude comments about your size, take a moment to take a breather and remember you're fabulous on the inside and out. Then point out to them that in the modeling world, we're all fat and don't we judge beauty standards by the images we see (i.e Victoria's Secret Fashion Show — I promise you, you're not meant to look like that, those models have strict diets and workout regimens to remain sizes 0-2, which many results in health issues). So I'm beautiful, you're beautiful, we're all beautiful, stop letting society dictate your view on size
So there you have it, body size doesn't matter. So take your beautiful, healthy, college student ass off this post and go have a slice of pizza. Don't forget to tell those body shamers "you're fat too!"
