Movies are a central part of pop culture. It was always a pivotal moment when your mom or dad let you go to the movies with your friends without supervision. I remember feeling so big and bad, and let me tell you something else, that TBT nostalgic feeling you felt going to the movies as a tween will one thousand percent be resurrected if (and when) you go see Black Panther.
1. It's a superhero action movie.
Who doesn't like action movies? Black Panther is a superhero apart of the Marvel series, which is all the craze right now (@Avengers, Iron Man, etc.).
2. The scenery is unreal.
Which I know sounds lame, but actually, the backdrops for some of the scenes are literally breathtaking and make you feel like you're in an entirely different world.
3. The guys are cute.
This is never a problem.
4. The girls are also cute.
The ladies in the movie are also gorgeous. But, even more importantly than that, the ladies in the film are STRONG and POWERFUL. The movie reemphasizes the fact that females are more than just the stereotype of being ditsy and dependent on a man.
But, in fact, women are leaders, warriors, scientists, queens, etc. Also, can I add that the Dora Milaje, which is essentially the personal bodyguards of the King, is made up of all females? Okurrrr.
5. The music is bomb.
Kendrick did his thing.
6. Represents and highlights African culture in a positive light.
So often we as a society are used to seeing Africa as a needy and dependent continent. Or maybe others just aren't used to being exposed to African culture at all. This movie breaks predetermined stereotypes of what is African culture but also demonstrates to other cultures that any society can benefit from qualities such as innovation, originality, compassion, and understanding.
7. Shows us the potential of a non-colonized Africa.
Wakanda is a special place because unlike other African countries in the movie, it was not colonized. Which is a beautiful thing because it allows the world to see the possibility of what Africa could be. But, even more importantly than that, it shows us a story of the people of Africa being able to discover themselves for themselves.
8. The plot is sooo inspirational.
I won't get too deep into this (I'm no spoiler) but no matter your age, race, or religion you can draw inspiration in some way or another.
9. Reminds us that no matter who your parents are, you are your own person.
It's hard to step out of the shadows of our parents or even older siblings but its necessary to be your most authentic self.
10. Reminds us all to exude love instead of hate.
:)
