"Freaks and Geeks" is easily one of the most underrated shows in all of existence, and I’m not exaggerating. It was created by the brilliant Paul Feig and Judd Apatow and aired between 1999 and 2000. To fan's disappointment, it was cancelled by executives after just one season (you can find out why here), but still holds a strong following. It even made it on Time magazine’s “100 Greatest Shows of All Time” list and IMDb ranked it as No. 2 on their list of the "Top 60 Best Shows That Got Cancelled Way Too Soon." It’s sad to think about the possibilities to make the show really special if the writers just had the time. But, thanks to Netflix, the whole short-lived, but amazing, series is all available to binge watch!
Before James Franco was a Hollywood hottie, before Jason Segel was a prominent TV star and before Seth Rogen made major comedic films, they all starred in the TV show "Freaks and Geeks." It follows sister and brother, Lindsay (Linda Cardellini) and Sam (John Francis Daley) as they go through the ups and downs of high school. Lindsay decides to ditch the mathletes to hang out with the burnouts, the “freaks” of the school. Meanwhile, Sam struggles through his freshman year with his “geek” friends.
1. The theme song.
If Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation” doesn’t make you want to headbang and air guitar, I’m pretty sure you’re lying.
2. All the music throughout the show for that matter.
From Van Halen to Cheap Trick to Supertramp, they covered so much classic '70s and '80s rock.
3. How absolutely, and hilariously, nerdy the geeks are.
Same, Neal, same.
4. Coach Fredricks.
The fact that Biff from Back to the Future played a gym teacher just made the role worth it.
5. All the cameos involved.
Why yes, that is a little Shia LaBeouf and Rashida Jones!
6. It accurately depicted how teenagers feel about high school.
Yup, that's high school for ya.
7. Mr. and Mrs. Weir’s advice for staying out of trouble.
8. Young Jason Segel.
He was just 19 when it was filmed and played the arguably most adorable stoner out there!
9. The awkwardness of first crushes.
10. The clothes.
Some we’d find teens wearing now and some will never be back in style. Either way, they’re fun to look at!
11. "Freaks and Geeks" touched on real situations that most shows wouldn’t.
Relationships, drugs, gender, family—it covered the highs and lows.
12. Sam’s reaction face.
13. Honestly, just the entire cast is perfect.
14. The mutual hatred for the executive who cancelled the show.
Fans and cast members alike are still disgusted by the idiot who cancelled this totally awesome series.
