6 Reasons Why We're All Babies At Heart

Aside from the diapers, we never stop being infants.

As I explore my 18th year on this planet and attempt to learn how to "adult," I realize how easy I had it as a child. So, rather than push my youth away, I thought I should embrace the parts of me that I'm supposed to grow out of. I'll start by sharing with you my idea that, for many reasons, we are all truly babies at heart. Here are the top 6 traits I share, and probably always will, with an infant.

1. It is impossible for me to eat food without getting it all over my face.

I mean at least it's cute when babies wear their spaghetti, but I'm a little mad adult bibs are not a thing.

2. When people yell at me, I cry.

I finally realized my emotional tolerance, and it is that of a newborn. Yet another trait I wish was considered socially acceptable. Like, it's cool for this baby to cry cause she dropped her pacifier, but I can't sob when 7/11's slurpee machine is broken?! Ugh. Babies get away with everything.

3. I can fall asleep almost anywhere.

Sure, I can't adorably fit into most inanimate objects, but that doesn't mean I don't deserve a break after a long three hours at work. If I want to transform my desk into a tempur-pedic, I should have every right.

4. I require almost constant attention.

Yeah sure, babies couldn't survive without around the clock care, but I would probably benefit exponentially from never ending hugs, and yet you don't see anyone hiring a nanny for me.

5. I wouldn't object to having someone pick out all of my outfits.

Babies can never truly appreciate the lack of effort they have to put into their wardrobe, but I'll do so for them. Onesies and footsies were so simple and carefree, I find myself shopping for them even in adulthood. No shame in my game.

6. I admit to being entertained by bright, fast-moving colors.

In all seriousness, is Instagram really that different from the wiggles? I mean, "Fruit salad, Yummy Yummy!" That sounds like one of the captions I'd use if I posted a photo of a fancy smoothie bowl. They even sell adult coloring books now, you can't tell me that's not because some babysitter was pretending to enjoy using crayons when she realized that toddlers were onto something with the whole coloring thing.

I'm telling you people, we have so much to learn from who we're trying to teach.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
