6 Reasons To Go To The Library Aside From Studying

Wait, you mean people actually go here when they do not have exams or assignments coming up?!?!

While mainly used for studying and completing your assignments, the library can also be the perfect place for other activities. To me, the library is so much more than the stacks of books and desks it contains. It is a safe haven where I can go to at any time. It is the only place where I can comfortably enjoy being alone without feeling any pressure or judgment from others.

Here are some of the reasons you can find me at the library, even when I have nothing to work on currently:

1. To be more productive.

Regardless of whether or not something is due for a class or there's just something I want to get done in general, you can always find me at the library to get it done. I am not the type of person t can get things accomplished in his apartment (my bed is just too tempting). I also hate complete silence, so going to the library also solves this.

2. To be more social.

Wait, you're probably thinking that the library and being social can not possibly go together. I can tell you that is indeed false. It is the perfect spot for my friends and me to get caught up about what happened over the weekend while being productive at the same time.

3. To people-watch.

Everyone has to study, and where is a more popular place to go than the library? There are seriously so many different and interesting people that make up this campus and the library unites them all. Whenever I have time between classes and do not feel like walking home, you can find me taking it all in.

4. To nap.

Not going to lie, the library has some pretty comfy chairs that are often unused. If I just need a break from people or have an hour to kill before classes, you can find me at the library laying down, listening to music or watching a show on Netflix. The "Harry Potter" room in Penn State's library is especially good for this!

5. Starbucks.

Sure the line may be ridiculously long, but the location at the library is closest to all my classes. It also moves pretty quickly considering all of the people that wait in it. You can catch me ordering a Strawberry Açaí Refresher and not worrying if this makes me late for class.

6. Tech Support.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am constantly having problems with my laptop. Whether it be connecting to the WiFi or spilling lemonade over it, I have definitely consulted the IT desk for free and quick help. Highly recommend over the Geek Squad in State College.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
