5 Reasons You Should Read This Article About Donald Trump
Business Insider

I'm sorry guys. This actually isn't going to be an easily digested list article. I lied to get your attention. You know, sort of like how Donald Trump is constantly lying so that he can get attention. So hopefully this will go on to be as popular with non-terrible people as Trump is now with certain very terrible people. By the way, it doesn't matter if you reject an endorsement from those terrible people. Obviously you're doing something that they think is right for them to endorse you in the first place.

So am I calling Donald Trump a racist because he is supported by a former KKK Grand Wizard? Not exactly. He might be a racist, but not just because he's supported by a group that somehow still exists in this country. Ah, but do I have any evidence? Besides the whole "Mexicans are rapists and criminals bit of course. Well I'm glad you asked but I'm sad to have to give you this answer. At a recent Trump rally, an African American protester was was being removed by local sheriffs when out of nowhere John McGraw, a 78-year-old man from the audience sucker-punched the protester in the face. And here's where things get really messed up. McGraw is being charged with assault and disorderly conduct for his sucker-punching and Trump might pay his legal fees.

Let me play Devil's advocate against myself for a moment. Maybe John McGraw isn't a racist and maybe he would have punched any protester. And maybe Trump is just paying McGraw's legal fees so that he will appear to be loyal to his supporters as he has done in the past. But that's where all this build-up leads up to. Maybe Trump doesn't really believe any of the crazy things he says. Maybe he just knew that it might get him elected.

There are plenty of memes about Trump answers going around the internet right now. Here's a good example:

That fake quote is very similar to this real one,

Trump's answers are frequently ramblings like this about making things better. Ask him a question about a thing and he will give you a two minute response about making that thing better without explaining how he'll make that thing better. And that's because he doesn't really have an opinion on anything that isn't stereotypical Republican concerns. His platform is built around his "Make America Great Again" hat.

He echoes the "back in my day" rhetoric of many older politicians and probably your grandparents. Everything was always better "back in the day." But when and what exactly was better? The United States has been involved in wars and enormous social movements since its conception. Back in our grandparents' day, we were at war with Korea and the civil rights movement barely existed. Maybe your grandparents are younger than that so they grew up hearing about Vietnam. They heard about Martin Luther King Jr. being shot. They watched John F. Kennedy's assassination. They were afraid of nuclear bombs coming from Russia. We are in perpetual conflict.

Don't get me wrong, I totally love America, but at no point has it ever been the very best country in the world on every single issue. We're good at some things and worse at others. Unfortunately two of the things we're really good at are military conflict and restricting a group of peoples' rights. And that's what the hardcore, stereotypical Republicans love about this country. They want to be the dominant military force of the world. They want to have military grade weapons in their homes. They want to have the freedom to both practice their religion and hate people of another religion. They want to use their religion as an excuse to be homophobes islamaphobes and xenophobes. And Donald Trump is taking advantage of all those wants.

Until this election season, Trump has never been particularly vocal about any issues. He never really considered himself a conservative. In fact, when he tried running for president back in 2000 it was under the Reform party and he advocated universal healthcare. Now he believes... well it's hard to say. When asked about healthcare Trump gives one of those rambling answers and mostly talks about "Obamacare" being a disaster.

Oh, and he donated heavily to the Democrats. So Trump may or may not actually believe any of the things he says, he just wants the support of every Republican possible. He wants the support of the evangelicals and the elderly. He just wants to win.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
