You're The Reason I Know What Love Looks Like
Gabriella Castillo

They always say you will fall in love with the most unexpected person at the most unexpected time. I find this especially true with our situation. I fell into your arms at just the right time, when I needed it the most.

I know it gets hard sometimes when I'm hesitant with you, when I question you and when I let my emotions get the best of me. I know that you forgive me. I know that you understand it was the people before that destroyed my perspective on love. Constant lies and abusive of all forms can hurt someone deeply. So I want to thank you for continuing to be patient with me and loving me unconditionally.

You're the reason I know what love looks like.

I prayed for you before God put you in my path. I prayed a wonderful man like you would come into my life when I needed it and would love me the way I should be loved. I prayed I would be able to let you in and trust you. I prayed for forgiveness, for unconditional love and for a sense of belonging. Hear me when I say this: I feel like I belong with you. All of my prayers were answered when you walked into my life.

You completely flipped my life upside down. I was at my worst when we met. I had just gotten out of a 3+ year long abusive relationship and another month long abusive and manipulative relationship. The first night I opened up to you about it was comforting. I could see in your eyes that you cared and that you would never let that happen to me again.

You've set a fire in my heart that will never go out. You showed me I can trust again. You've believed in me. You've made me feel safe. You proved I could never be hurt like that again.

You took me out on dates and always made sure to tell me how much fun you had.

You drove me home when I was homesick and needed my mom.

You went out of your comfort zone to go to concerts with me and try new foods that you weren't too sure about.

You've held me countless times as I've cried because I learned life can be really hard.

You've stayed up hours past your bed time to make sure I understand material for my exams that I have the next day.

You've pushed me to do my best in everything I do and you've always been supportive of my career dreams.

You're the reason I know what love feels like.

Thank you for buying me food, getting me my favorite comfort foods/ginger ale, making me feel safe, laughing with me, making me happy, making me feel loved, but most importantly for being you.

Thank you for being my best friend. I love you for all that you are, all that you have been, and all that you're yet to be.

Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
