Yesterday, I took part in the Polar Plunge at the Whitewater, WI location. You know, that annual event where a lot of crazy people jump into a pool, or lake, of freezing cold water. I wasn't sure what to expect, even though I volunteered to help at the event last year. After looking back on the article I wrote after last year's plunge, I wanted to write about my experiences as an actual plunger.
My individual fundraising total was $90, just $15 above the minimum monetary goal. I am so thankful and appreciative of everyone who donated to my campaign! However, my entire team managed to raise over $700! I think that's pretty impressive for a team consisting of seven people. I know the money is going to a great cause.
The weather was, luckily, in the 40's, which is pretty unusual for Wisconsin at this time of the year. I am eternally grateful because I honestly don't think I could have worked up the courage to take the plunge in colder temperatures.
The plunge was over in a matter of seconds; as soon as my team submerged in the cold water, we were all ready to get out. Upon exiting the pool, I immediately ran over to grab my bath towel and took shelter in the heated changing tent waiting for us behind the main event. It was so crowded in there; I couldn't start taking my wet clothes off until a few people left! You have no idea how hard it is to take off wet leggings while surrounded by at least ten other women trying to do the same thing.
I can officially check this event off my bucket list and start pursuing another crazy adventure! No matter who you are or where you come from, I encourage everyone to participate in the Polar Plunge. Your efforts can help change the lives of over 10,000 individuals with disabilities; how unbelievably cool is that? It's hard to describe an event that means so much to a lot of different people. But without a doubt, I will be jumping for the second time at next year's Polar Plunge.
Are you ready to freeze for a reason?
