10 Reasons College is the Best

For as long as I can remember, I was told that college would be the best years of my life. Given, this could be due to the fact that my parents both attended the same major university and had the time of their life while they were in school. But, regardless of why I was told this fact, it is something that i can remember hearing for as long as my memory allows me. And people were right. So far, college has been the best years. I can't remember once wishing I was still in high school, but I know that one day I will look back and say that I miss college. My university, college town and friends have made my college experience the best I could have ever imagined. Here are just a few reasons why college is the best.

1. Friends.

I talk about my college friends an annoying amount, but I can't help it. I have constant contact with them even though we all live all over the country. I love them so much that I can't put it into words and it is all because of college that I found them.

2. Freedom.

College gives you freedom that you haven't experienced before. It teaches you how to prioritize things and decide what is and what is not important. This can be difficult to learn to handle but its one of the best lessons you learn while you are here.

3. Sports.

Sure, you can watch these at any time. but there is certainly something special about getting to experience them as a student. Being a part of your universities fan base can be a world of fun. I plan myself around my college's basketball games. I've found myself crying after big wins and losses but every single moment has been worth it. (#catsby90)

4. Knowledge.

You came here to learn, so this seems like a given, but you learn so much about life during your time there. You learn loads of knowledge in your classes but you learn just as much outside of class. This experience is truly one in a million.

5. Weekends.

So many of the best times of my life have been made on my college weekends. From going out to staying in and watching movies with roommates, the weekends are just something special.

6. Free food.

If you look around your campus there is almost always some even going on where you can get free food. My professors even talk about leaving class and loading up on the free pizza you can sometimes find on campus.

7. Free T-shirts.

While we are on the topic of things bring free you can find free t-shirts all over your campus. Lets be real who doesn't love a free t-shirt?

8. Helping others.

Universities have an infinite amount of ways you can get in and help people in your community and even all over the world. Look and I'm sure you can find a way that you can make a difference.

9. Darties.

Waking up on a beautiful day and running around with your friends to tailgate or going to the bar to cheer on your team is the best and lucky for you while you're in college you are much less likely to get judge for doing this in the day.

10. Maturity.

When you come to college you really grow up. And you do a significant amount of growing up year to year. You learn a lot about yourself and the world. The growing up do while you are away at college really is a beautiful thing.

College is the best and the worst but mainly the best. You learn so much about yourself and others and it gives you a really strong base of understanding the world better. You're exposed to many different people and cultures and it opens your eyes to realize everything and everyone isn't just like you and that is okay.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
