New Year's Resolutions. You set them, you think about pursuing them, and then they fade away. Come the following year, you set new ones. And, the cycle repeats.

Telling yourself you are going to hit the gym every day or pick up a new language for the millionth year in a row... it's getting old. You know you're not going to do it, I know you're not going to do it.

2018 is your year. Set realistic goals and achieve them.

Here are 18 realistic resolutions you can set for 2018.

1. Make sure you're getting enough sleep.

This is so important and very underrated. Sleep is not for the weak!

2. Start smiling at strangers.

It's not weird, and it makes a difference.

3. Give 200% at work.

Get that promotion.

4. Work towards your goals.

Anything that isn't bringing you closer to your dream is a waste of time.

5. Save your money.

Start a retirement account, rainy day mason jar, just stash some of that cash to the side and you'll thank yourself later.

6. Invest in things that make you happy.

Whether it's treating yourself to a spa day once a month or even just buying a book that isn't required for school, make sure you're treating yourself.

7. Step out of your comfort zone.

While this seems a little broad, doing something that scares you a little bit will pay off.

8. Don't burn bridges, build them.

You never know who is going to be interviewing you for the job.

9. Be nice to everyone.

Yes, there are exceptions- But a great rule of thumb is to just be nice to everyone. You never know what they're going through.

10. Value your physical and mental health.

This isn't the average "go to the gym more" resolution. Valuing your physical and mental health and finding a balance for you is very important- whether for weight loss or to just feel better about yourself.

11. Reward yourself for good grades.

If you're away at college, you don't have anyone to run home to and show your great grades to. If you do well, reward yourself! Likewise, if you do poorly, dedicate more time to covering the topic and don't reward yourself.

12. Communicate.

There is nothing worse than being unsure about something. Communicate your thoughts and you will just be a happier person.

13. Quit old, unhealthy habits.

New year, New me- right? Quitting something may seem like it requires minimal effort, but this could be extremely difficult. Whether you're quitting hiding those Oreos that you always munch at, or a substance you haven't been able to edge off of, quitting these small and large unhealthy habits is improving your character.

14. Document memories.

I'm not telling you to Snapchat everything, but taking photos of what you're up to pays off in the end when you are reminiscing. Time flies by too fast to not document your life!

15. Try a new hobby.

Realistic, of course, but trying a new hobby could open up a whole new interest you never knew you had. Hey, you might even stumble upon your passion.

16. Spend more unplugged days.

In this age going without your devices can be harder than it should be. Take some more completely unplugged days to stay in touch with those around you.

17. Make connections.

You're young, you're thriving. Make those business connections. It's a small world, and you never know what is going to help you in the future.

18. Put yourself first.

Because at the end of the day, you are stuck with yourself for the rest of your life. You are your own priority.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
