Synopsis: Cartoonist Stu Miley just created his most popular work called Monkeybone. It’s a big hit—fast food restaurants want to use his character, Monkeybone, as complimentary toys for kids, lots of memorabilia is being created from this cartoon—and everything seems peachy keen. However, Stu ends up getting into a coma after an ironic car accident. In this movie, we go into Stu’s mind while in the coma and follow him in his journey to escape. Although many people would think people in comas experience one long dream, Stu experiences one long nightmare in which he has to fight against his character Monkeybone. Strange things happen in this world along so many strange creatures. Will Stu make it in time before the plug is pulled, or will he be able to beat Monkeybone?
Review: I watched this movie all the time when I was a little girl, and for the first time in years, I recently watched it again. Now, the thing about this movie that stands out the most to me is that it seems to be a combination of Salvador Dali’s and Tim Burton’s works. Both these people have produced the strangest works of art, and this movie definitely follows in their footsteps. For a movie from 2001, I think the creativity and the originality is top notch. You probably won’t find another movie like this, old or recent. Not many people have heard of it, so it is definitely underrated.
