Are we REALLY safe?

Many people are feeling many different things after the incidents that occurred in Florida in the past week. I have been seeing many posts all over Facebook and many articles saying lots of theories but they all are asking one thing... "Are we really safe in our country today?" Well, this is what I have to say.

Yes and no. We can not be afraid to live our lives. We live in a country that allows us so many freedoms that many countries do not have, in which those countries can be killed for even attempting to try and do even the smallest of things that we take for granted. We have some of the best police officers in the world that are trying their best to keep us safe from all of the bad things that happen in the world. One thing we should realize, even though we live in one of the best countries in the world, this can also makes us a target.

Here are a few facts about everyday life that you may not realize.

1. On average, more than 3,200 people die every day in car accidents.

That is approximately 1.3 million people a year.

2. Along with that, up to 50 million people are hurt or become disabled due to car accidents.

3. A good night sleep can refresh you for the next day, but believe it or not, your bed can kill you as well, 450 people die every year from falling out of bed.

4. Sadly, your favorite food may be your demise as roughly 4,800 people die from choking each year.

5. It would not feel like winter if there were not some icicles on roof tops. Sadly, 15 peoples' lives will be cut short due to falling icicles.

Though some of the examples above may sound frivolous, they are just an example of what we may face everyday.

In our past history, as a nation we have faced many challenging events from wars, assassinations, terrorist attacks, and weather catastrophes. The result of these events have been traumatic and heart breaking, but have shown that we can prevail and come together as a country to support one another.

These events have also proven that we cannot be stopped though we need to be observant and careful, we should not stop living our lives.

No matter how observant and cautious we may be, tragedies may still occur that are out of our control.

We live in a world that has things happening all of the time. One thing that we can not do is hide from the world.

My thoughts are with the all of the victims, their families, and communities that have been affected by recent events. Though you may not see it, the world is standing behind you, you are not alone. Florida Strong.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
