"Once upon a time" only happens in fairy tales. They say you only get one true love. If that is true, then I passed up the best love. I had two chances to love him, and I did. Except there was one loose end, I did not understand the emotion. Being only 14 and 15 years old, and people saying, "You do not even know what love is." Starts to make you wonder, maybe they are right. What am I doing? Do I love this person or is this just a really great friendship not a relationship?

So the story goes, you break a good-hearted, kind boy's heart and yours in the process. Do they mend or just stay cracked forever? He was the one that repaired your broken heart before, but who will now? Will either of you ever be able to love again? So many questions and not even understanding what the heck you are talking about or let alone feeling for that matter.

"You make me happy when you are around. It is fun to be with my girlfriend if people say you are a bad person to be around they're wrong I know you are nice..." - A boyfriend, 13, to his girlfriend, 14, in April 2010.

We may of only been in middle school, in 2010, on our way to being freshman, but he knew what love meant. Love is making someone happy and loving them for who they are, not what the rest of the world sees.

Fast-forward a couple years, you start seeing him dating other girls. They're wearing his jacket, the one you use to like wearing. The jealousy hits you like a speed ball that came out of no where.

You graduate high school, and you wish you would of loved him and not fallen for the guy, who could not care less if y'all were friends. You loved the one who did not love you back and missed out on the one who did. The guy that loved you before you knew what love meant, was now gone in a flash and you have all these feelings that are no use now. You begin to search for someone just like him or at least someone that can put up with you, but no luck.

Present day, he finally wants to be friends again, after five years of wondering what could of been. You are feeling so much and never know what to say to him when y'all talk on Facebook chat. You are just happy, y'all can at least talk to each other after everything that happened.

The moral of the story is, do not miss out on a love that meaningful. Someone that can love you when the rest of the world tolerates you, is a keeper. I regret not seeing that back then. I am a better person for knowing him, because he saw the good and bad in me and still loved me. Find someone who can show you what real love is. Whatever you feel, make sure you tell that person before it is too late.

"Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 ESV

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
