Epiphanies Of Enlightened Youth

Epiphanies Of Enlightened Youth
Aubrey Hughes

In the process of growing, there are specific stages one's mind must meet in order to fulfill itself, and in order to progress to truth. Realization number one happens for everyone, it is at your discretion with such knowledge to either remain a sheep in the heard, or to further stray away from the sameness, and find things like peace, or enlightenment, or happiness.

When a child is in the womb, it is the purest form of life that could ever live. Mentally content and influenced by nothing, because it holds no knowledge of the outside world. Each and every one of us has experienced this form of naivety and vulnerability, so much so that we cannot remember it. The very moment a child is birthed, it has been tainted with influence. And from that point on, a child continues to lose its purity, as the life it lives, becomes everyone else’s, and not its own.

In growing from child to adolescence, or to any future occurring stage of life, one will discover the world, as well as him or herself in new ways. A child knows the world as a beautiful and pure place, full of good people and good things, but in order to further project the mind into the next mental phase, one must first understand that this is not true. Everyone will have to come to terms with the notion that there is evil in the world. This coming of age and understanding is usually found by the results of a specific devastating or traumatic event or epiphany, one that will force a child, or person in general, to understand that good consequences do not come from every action, even if the original intention is good, or if the consequences received are not the consequences that are deserved. This event does not have to be one to severe levels, such as experiencing a death, or molestation. Something as minor as witnessing a killing in a movie, or simply seeing something unjust take place before your eyes could press your mind to understand that the world is not actually the euphoria we originally presumed it was.

As a young person in the midst of the haze that one calls "life," the picture that was constructed for your personal experiences by everyone and everything around you, will then be ripped right down the middle. You realize that you have been living a lie, but not really even a lie... You have just been living a life that has been selected for you, one that you did not ask for, and though that life may be fortunate, that in itself does not have the ability to keep one satisfied for eternity. Dissatisfaction can only come from receiving less than expected, which also stems from the original epiphany that the world is not entirely what you thought it was, in that, one may expect to be satisfied, but yet is unhappy with the results of their action. Dissatisfaction is really the cause, as well as the result of this realization. Almost to say that one has to experience dissatisfaction only in order to see a facade, that then pushes them into further dissatisfaction, for one is now aware of what makes them unhappy, as well as what flaws belong the world around them. This one inclination to the evils of the world is what we then base all of our future decisions. You learn who and what to stay away from, as well as what to say and what not to say, what to do and not to do, and even further you begin to build your personal character aside from all that you thought you learned from the world. At times you even begin to find the corruption in your own foundation, you begin to recognize small holes and infractions in what you thought, and what you have been taught.

From this point, one's conclusion of these notions must be the question regarding whether or not they chose to be apart of the corruption and the dissatisfaction that they can now see as an ongoing factor. Not to say that one must begin to dislike the life that they are living, but the way opinions are formed, is through this very process. In learning the actualities of life, one is able to distinguish everything, place a label on everything, and understand that everything does not lead to gratification. Seeing these sides of the world will allow one to decide what he or she is fond of, as well as what he or she will do to receive the gratification that they use to receive. in a way that aligns with the opinions and beliefs that they have developed due to the unfulfillment that they have previously experienced.

Realization number one can lead to multiple outcomes, it is possible that one may remain dissatisfied for the remainder of life, while another actually finds a peace and gratification. The choices people make on religion, political affiliation, social issues, and almost anything else you can think of, is product from the first realization. Either its the fear of these forces or the dissatisfaction they have caused you, that drive you away from the unknown, or pull you further into it. The unknown is the real actuality of life, the truth about what is going on out beyond your own mind, and even out beyond what you can immediately derive from the world, the idea that there is a connection between every single human, something that drives every decision we make.

Personally, I decided to explore the unknown, trying to find the actual truest truth amidst a whole world of endless societal influences, pointless distractions, and gray areas. The journey one takes from that point on is all their own, every decision, every thought, every action, is based solely on that first realization, that first perception, and that first inclination of actual critical thought. It is a critique of the world you are used to, in order to see the wrongs of it. You then are able to face a reality however you so chose, whether you cope with the world by becoming its truth, or you cope with it by accepting its flaws regardless of how flawed it is and remaining a product of the environment, rather than influencing the environment itself.

Everybody has a choice on which path they take, and one may always change the direction in which he is traveling, so long as he somehow finds within himself, the mental capacity to do so. But being a sheep in an institution that promotes the kind of unsensual and unsubstantial, then furthermore unnatural behaviors that this one does, is not the state of mind in which I could continue living my life. I hope to bring the truth to light that people refuse to search for, my first realization led me to believe that I can influence this environment to get people to turn to truth, for it is not outside of one's own consciousness. You possess the truth within you, its just a matter of reaching within your own being, just far out enough to be able to hold your soul right between your eyes, and realize that you are alive within a plan that is so divine. The universe and the earth are beautiful places in which we have more of an obligation to do good unto ourselves and others than this society gives the gives credit for. Once one comes to terms with this, he will have no choice but to pursue this peace for the world, this further knowledge of the world, and understand that there is beauty and enlightenment beyond this facade of the world that so many people are living within.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.
