Reality TV shows like "The Bachelorette," "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," and "Survivor" are shows that everyoneseems to be watching. Don't get me wrong, I like to watch TV once in awhile but I'm not obsessing over these reality TV shows like the rest of the nation. Frankly, I think they create unnecessary drama and are people who want to put their lives out there for everyone to see and to get attention. Instead of wasting my time watch reality TV shows I do these XX things instead.
1. Read a book.
Seriously, go find a book and read. I know you get pooped after reading your textbook for that exam you just had, but reading a book for leisure is so much better. Some books have so much more page-turning drama than a reality show will every have. Plus, you can choose to keep going when there is a cliff-hanger at the end. With a TV show you have to wait until the next episode which can be months away.
2. Get a workout in.
It you habitually watch reality shows and then complain you are so busy that you don't have time to go to the gym or go for a run, then your complaining is invalid. I promise you will feel much more relaxed and healthier after going to the gym instead of watching that show. And o.k. if you are THAT into the show, why not just go on the treadmill at the gym and have them play it on the TVs?
3. Clean.
GiphySo what if cleaning isn't fun to you? You will be so much more happy when you have a clean room (or house) again. When I clean I go as far as dusting, wiping down my windows a mirrors, and vacuuming every little spot. Not only will you feel better, but you'll thank yourself in the coming days when something fun to do comes up and you don't have to clean beforehand.
4. Get into the baking groove.
Baking (or even cooking) is always something fun to do. Why sit there watching TV and eating ice cream when you can make a delicious apple pie to enjoy with that ice cream and your family.
5. Have a game night.
Pull out that monopoly game or Phase 10. It's so much more fun to play games with family and friends than wasting time watching who gets booted off of the Bachelorette. I can't tell you how many time my roommates, friends and I played Phase 10 instead of just sitting there watching TV all the time.
6. Take a bath.
GiphyLet's be real, baths were for kids until bath bombs became a thing. Even if you don't want to drop $7 on a bath, go to Walmart, get a big bottle of bubble bath for $5, light some candles, and have yourself a relaxing night. You'll be getting toxins out rather than taking in toxins from that TV.
7. Take some type of class.
OK so school isn't for everyone, but I'm not talking about those kinds of classes. There are lots of places that offer different types of classes. Go to a yoga class, a baking class, a crafting class, or even an archery class. You can learn a lot and gain new skills. I'm not sure about you but I'd rather go to some fun class like goat yoga!
8. Go to a play or musical.
Most of the time reality TV is just people looking for attention and get rich doing so. I'd much rather go to a play or musical because one, it's much more enjoyable and two, you support your local actors, directors, etc. who's career it is to put on such extraordinary shows.
9. Get crafty.
You do not need to be artistic to get crafty. If anything, getting crafty will help you to get better with artistic skills (as they say, practice makes perfect). Whether you just pain a canvas board or try out some DIYs, you'll have fun and get to make some cool things for your place.
10. Get outside.
Whether you go on a hike or just lay out in your backyard getting outside and getting fresh air is so much better for you. It so much more relaxing and let's be real, when was the last time you just went outside and truly enjoyed nature?
11. Do something seasonal.
Whether it's kayaking in the summer, apple picking in the fall, skiing in the winter, or going on a picnic in the spring, be sure to get out and do something. It's really fun to do seasonal things compared to just sitting inside watching a show. Just live in the moment.
My point is: Don't waste your time obsessing over stupid "reality" TV. Learn to live life to the fullest because we aren't here for too long.
