Reality Television Is Becoming More Like A Circus Rather Than Entertainment

Reality Television is so ratchet and we really shouldn't waste our time watching it.

The ratchetness of reality television is far and wide, and the sad part is that there is a good amount of Americans excited to see what they will do next week. The reality shows of today are not what it should be, and something needs to change and change fast.

As far as reality television shows are concerned, I believe that those who appear on the shows glorify different “weird” situations that are not only going on in their lives but also in the country.

Shows such as "Love and Hip-Hop," "Jersey Shore," "Black Ink Crew," "The Real Housewives" and "Big Brother" are making television look like a circus more than entertainment. Myself, personally, does not think there is anything entertaining about what is appearing on television and sometimes wonder if ratings did not matter if these shows would be different.

There is so much ratchetness on reality television that our children think it is OK for the stars to act like they act, and it is very sad to stand by and watch.

"Love and Hip-Hop," in my opinion, is the most ratchet show. It is the very show that has launched the careers of so many of today’s hottest stars such as Joseline Hernandez, K. Michelle and Cardi B.

There have been several appearances by well-known musical artists such as Ray J, Trina, Kesha Cole, Faith Evans and Stevie J. Critics describe the show as hilarious and a guilty pleasure.

Although, I do not see anything funny or pleasurable about people fighting, arguing or acting “ghetto,” it is more degrading than anything, and in fact, it gives minorities a bad name because most of its cast members are minorities.

I am not sure cast members try to get a spot on the show for attention or to make a name for themselves, but I believe that the cast members are only making their reputation worse because of how they are “forced” to act on camera at times.

Their behavior is only fueling social media and making the cast members look more like Twitter/Instagram stars rather than television stars.

For example, Cardi B has 21.8 million followers and K Michelle has 5.2 million followers. If more people would be focused on the talents of various cast members over their personalities, I believe that the show would be much better to watch.

"The Real Housewives Franchise" has launched the careers of some of the most famous female celebrities in America such as NeNe Lekes, Bethenny Frankel and Porsha Williams.

In addition to launching careers, "The Real Housewives" continued to grow the career of Kandi Burruss, who was already known for her music as a member of Xscape. "The Real Housewives," although not as ghetto as "Love and Hip-Hop," still leaves a lot to be desired because it is filled with drama and unintelligent conversations.

"The Real Housewives" does not put the focus on the families, but the wives. The show is all about the wives, and they will do anything or befriend anyone to get ahead in life.

The issue with "The Real Housewives" is that it is more discord than harmony and those cast members who say they are friends with other cast members are only saying that to get some "juicy" Information out of them to later use against them.

Therefore, there is a lot of backstabbing going on between other cast-mates. "The Real Housewives" is clearly another show that looks more like a circus rather than an entertaining television show that only fuels tabloid magazines and gives daytime talk shows a "hot topic."

I would like to petition viewers to not watch reality television shows for the sake of your sanity and intelligence. Reality television and the ratchetness of it all only takes away from your intelligence because of how embarrassing the cast members act.

The unfortunate part of all of these reality shows is that the only reason that the cast members act that way is because of ratings. The ratings will be what fuels these shows and if the ratings continue to be strong, these shows will continue to air.

If we begin to boycott these shows, more and more people may wake up and see how damaging these shows can be to your mind and soul. I do not know about you, but I am beginning my boycott now.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
