I absolutely love the seasons that God puts us through that teaches us so much and gives us the blessing of a reality check. Yes, at some points it can feel like a slap in the face, but at least it's a slap with some truth all around it. They call us the human race for a reason, we are constantly racing to the next thing on our list or trying to squeeze something else into our impossible schedules. Recently, I got slapped hard with some truth about my life and took a huge reality check.
1. Just be.
With school, social events, being a dog mom, catching up on TV shows, the newest movie, work, trying to see all your friends each week, planning events, and other crazy things that we squeeze in, just be in the moment. Your life is just the way it is for purposes that we may never know. Everyone goes through different things and everyone has different experiences; none of us are the same. That lesson was huge to me this week. For that very reason, I will forever work on me, making me better, and not letting anything get in the way of just being.
2. Look at how far you've come.
This happens to be one of my favorite parts of the reality check. The difference of just this time last year and now puts me in such a good place. The difference in the motives, how I spend my time, and where my heart is. I am forever thankful for the growth and the person that I am becoming. My first semester here at Lander, I wanted to transfer back home and go back to a safe area where I knew I was rooted. That was over a year ago. For whatever reason, I stayed and it has been the best decision of my life. Yes, I dearly miss my friends and family at the beach. But the life I have made here has been what has grown me into the person I am today.
3. The Best Has Yet To Come!
The future absolutely excites me, then terrifies me, and overwhelms me with excitement all once. All those emotions at once can be very perplexing. I realized to just be in today and get ready for the things that are coming! This is such an exciting age and time in our lives to be in. So many new things and changes are coming!
A lot of times, reality checks can be very scary and people like to run from the idea. But this time, I embraced mine and came out of it stronger. I am super thankful for a God who always pours grace and love over me, and all the encouragement from those along the way. When reality comes to get you, don't run, sweet friends. Show reality who's boss and kick it to the curb. You get to choose, don't let it take your happiness. Joy is one of the most powerful weapons, and don't let anything try to take that away from you.
