I was born a competitor, and I was raised one. Now, I am also a Division 1 athlete and I compete almost every weekend. Competing is in my blood, so naturally I am very competitive, but not just when it comes to sports.
I find myself competing with others at almost everything whether it is school, work, shopping, sports, or almost anything else that could be made into a competition. I catch myself comparing how many more likes I have on social media than other people, or even competing with how many shares the articles I write get. My competitiveness takes over sometimes, and it can be a bad thing, but I can't help it! Here are five things that happen when you're a competitive person.
1. Literally Everything Is A Competition.
I could be reading a book in class, look over to the person next to me, see that they're three pages ahead of me, and I try to catch up and beat them. The silliest things turn into a competition for me, but hey, competition is fun.
2. Show No Mercy.
I was babysitting once, and we were playing candy land. My competitiveness took over and I simply could not let the kids win. I had to win. Even though you're "supposed" to let little kids win the games when you play with them, I just couldn't.
3. Losing At Anything Is Not Okay.
As a competitive person, losing is not something I'm okay with. In fact, I hate it with a passion. I get so mad and upset when I lose at anything, even if it's just a dumb game on my iPhone (Candy Crush).
4. Things Get Heated.
Sometimes a friendly game of baseball with my team turns into a giant catfight, and lots of yelling occurs. But that's just what happens when you're in a competition! You're not supposed to be "nice" while competing, and I'm surely not!
5. You're Determined.
No matter what, competing is what I'm passionate about, and when I'm in any competition, I give it 100%. I get determined to win, and will do everything I can, and at all costs, to make it happen.
Thankfully, I play a competitive sport at a high level, so I get to let out a lot of my competitiveness during actual competitions, but that doesn't mean I don't get competitive off the court as well. I love competing and always will. It comes naturally to me, and I don't give up easy. I think while my competitiveness can sometimes get in the way of things, it makes me who I am. In reality, the real world is extremely competitive too, so if anything, my competitive spirit will help me in many ways aside from just winning.
