Being Realistic With Your Time Makes For A Better Life

Don't wear busy as a status symbol.

Everyone is busy –– there's no doubt about that statement.

We have responsibilities at home, work, and school..plus we like to schedule a little time for fun and relaxation. I have learned that the only thing that adds to the busyness of daily life is making yourself too busy to enjoy life itself. When we overpack our schedules we are doing a disservice to ourselves. No one can be booked solid every single day, it's simply not healthy.

I know what you're thinking "But, I just have so much to get done."

Here's the thing, you can still get all of those tasks complete, but it doesn't all have to be done right now or even today. Pace yourself. Slow down. Take a few deep breaths.

Actually, take a look at your agenda book or calendar and see if you can attend that concert with your friends or if you have time to take a trip out of town.

Check before you commit.

I'm not saying to give up everything that brings you joy or to not work the absolute hardest you can at everything you attempt. However, sometimes saying no is a requirement and that's completely okay. You have to put yourself first in order to put others first. You have to be mentally stable and physically able, not exhausted.

Don't make life a checklist, give yourself the ability to enjoy its everyday blessings. You will get more done when you have the time to do it, stop and reflect, and enjoy yourself in the process.

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.
